by Ann Heisenfelt - AP View full size photo » In a weak free agent class, and maybe Omar Minaya's last year with the team, one would expect the Mets to make at least one splash in the trade market. So far, four semi-major trades have gone through, before the BBWAA has even announced its yearly award winners. The Mets didn't really "lose out" on any of those four players, but the trades...

View full size photo » The 2009 baseball season has just ended, and in a way, you could say that tonight, the 2010 season begins. While we are not going to see the most-hyped prospect, Stephen Strasburg -- he was scratched due to a strained neck muscle -- or Cubs prospect Josh Vitters, also scratched with a minor injury, there will be plenty of players in tonight's game who you'll see in the...

All four of the Tigers' competitors in the A.L. Central made moves Friday. Here's how those moves look through the Tigers lens: White Sox: They let go of right fielder Jermaine Dye, 35, when they didn't pick up his $12 million noption for next season. Dye, a Tigers tormentor, has hit 16 career homers at Comerica Park -- the most by any visiting player in the 10-year history...

Jermaine Dye, Scott Podsednik likely gone for good The acquisition of Mark Teahen and move of Gordon Beckham from third to second is just the start of a busy offseason. "Money's tight all over the world, certainly on the South Side," GM Ken Williams said. "Whatever the break-even numbers are, we'll spend whatever we have that's available. But it's not much."

Kenny Williams spoke with reporters today, and some things have become much clearer. To wit: + Even though Jermaine Dye officially became a free agent today, Mark Teahen will play third base instead of right field for the White Sox. Gordon Beckham will move to second base to fill the void left by Chris Getz. Fair [...]

The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals hooked up for an intradivision trade the day after the World Series ended, agreeing to send 3B/RF Mark Teahen to the south side of Chicago in exchange for 2B Chris Getz and 3B Josh Fields. This trade is certainly no blockbuster, but the trade appears to be very telling on how each general manager is approaching the offseason and construction of its roster....

White Sox Trade for Mark Teahen In return, the Royals are getting second baseman Chris Getz and third base/first base power hitter Josh Fields. Getz played quite a bit for the White Sox in '09, while Fields couldn't lock into one position and struggled to find playing time behind Gordon Beckham.

I'm still in Japan, but the internet situation has gone from worse to bad. Sister blog South Side Sox has its own reasons to wonder about the value of hitting coaches—in this case, of standing pat following Alex Rios's disastrous first year in Chicago. I'm not extremely familiar with the situation, but the case against Greg Walker seems to be the case against Hal McRae and, to be fair, most hitting...
