Frustrations and Celebrations

Time for a quick fluff piece while we wait for the winter meetings. The Dodgers have had substantial success over the last two seasons but that success was mitigated by failure to advance past the NLCS. Normally we at TBLA are a positive group but this November I'm feeling disgruntled about our future. So for every irritation I have with the team I'll try to counter with a positive. Irriations Celebrations...

Curtis Granderson might profit from Rudy Jaramillo

Chicago Cubs hitting coach might be able to help him against left-handers Many in the Cubs' front office think they would be foolish to give up Starlin Castro to get Curtis Granderson , but there are a lot of other ways to do the deal. General manager Jim Hendry appreciates all Granderson brings to the table, even though he has had trouble hitting left-handers in two of the last three seasons. Perhaps...

Kottaras Claimed Off Waivers

Even with Jason Kendall unlikely to return, it’s starting to look like the Brewers will have plenty of catching options when they start Spring Training a few months from now. With Mike Rivera, Angel Salome, and Jonathan Lucroy all likely in the picture, the Brewers claimed George Kottaras off waivers from the Boston Red [...]

Let's wait on Jonathan Lucroy

by Darren Hauck - AP Jason Kendall's ability to get hit by pitches isn't a good enough reason to bring him back for 2010, at any price. View full size photo » All of a sudden, after two years of sticking with Jason Kendall , the Brewers look like they're ready to make a move behind the plate. Frankly, it's about time. Earlier this week, Doug Melvin told Arn Tellem (who represents Jason Kendall)...

Update on catchers...

A name that has not been mentioned is that of Jason Kendall, the 35 y/o right hander is no longer the player he once was with the Pirates. From 1996 through 2000 he was considered one of the best catchers in the league, a standout defender with a great arm and a solid bat. During that time Kendall was a two time All-star, now his defense is beginning to slip and so is his bat. Still a great pitchers'...

Brewers to Kendall: Take a Pay Cut or Take a Hike

Short of the Brewers somehow landing an ace pitcher this offseason, this may be the best news we get for awhile. Just a few hours ago, Tom Haudricourt tweeted that the Brewers have been talking to Jason Kendall’s agent, Arn Tellem, and recently told him the obvious — the team can’t afford to bring Kendall back [...]

Brewers Catching Flak

Among the numerous questions the Brewers are facing this offseason, one of the more glaring comes at the catcher position. With rumors of the club opting to not re-sign Jason Kendall in favor of farmhand Jonathan Lucroy, the $5 M question is — should Milwaukee’s backstop be a player who’s never played above double-A ball OR should it be a player who plays with the skill of a double-A...
