Here's a concern moving forward, unless the Mets are going to build an incredible offense to over compensate for a mediocre rotation they need a solid number two pitcher. I Don't see the Mets signing Matt Holliday, Bengie Molina, Orlando Hudson, Garret Atkins ( for the bench) and trading for Adrian Gonzalez, so the rotation will need to be addressed. As far as free agency, there is John Lackey who...

I don't believe either player will end up with the Mets because they are injury risks but I still think they would solid additions to the club. Rich Harden and Reed Johnson don't appear in the Cubs plan for next year mainly due to the injuries they sustained during the 2009 season. Rich Harden when on the field is one of the best pitchers in the league, the problem is Harden always seemed to be injured....

A while back, Jason Marquis began to lobby for a Mets contract offer through his friend and advocate Jeff Francoeur. Now he’s made a full-blown pitch, suggesting to Bart Hubbach that he and the Mets are a “perfect fit”. As we’ve discussed earlier, Jason Marquis needs the Mets involved if he’s to obtain a multi-year, multimillion-dollar [...]

More photos » by AARON J. LATHAM - AP Browse more photos » Last season, Jason Marquis and Randy Wolf were good deals for their respective teams. The Rockies traded aging reliever Luis Vizcaino for Jason Marquis and got a 3.8 WAR ($17.1MM), all-star season out of the veteran. The Dodger signed Wolf for $5 Million plus incentives and he produced a 3.0 WAR ($13.6MM) performance. Now, coming...

I like the fact that Jason Marquis wants to be a Met and that he would receive added incentive to pitch in front of friends and family. The Mets need players who have a desire to play here and aren't just here for a big payday. That doesn't mean that I believe Marquis is the answer to all of our rotational problems, I see him as an up grade to Tim Redding. A solid veteran pitcher in the back end of...

Bart Hubbuch / New York Post : Marquis calls Mets ‘perfect fit’ — Jeff Francoeur wasn't kidding when he told The Post this summer that free-agent right hander Jason Marquis badly wants to be a Met in 2010. — Marquis backed that up this week, telling The Post he considers the Mets “a perfect fit” …

Jason Marquis, native of Staten Island, has made no secret of his desire to pitch for the Mets, describing himself as a "perfect fit" to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. But is this the case? The Mets themselves aren't sure, ranking Marquis below both John Lackey and Joel Pineiro on their pitching wish list, according to Hubbuch. Marquis' strengths are durability and his hitting. Both,...

Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post talked to free-agent RHP Jason Marquis, who feels he is a ‘perfect fit for the Mets.’ Marquis was 15–13 with a 4.04 ERA in 216 innings pitched for the Rockies last season, during which he struck out 115 batters, walked 80, and got twice as many ground balls as [...]

Meet the Mets Bart Hubbuch writes that Wally Backman would be the logical heir to Jerry Manuel should the Mets dump their manager mid-season. Jason Fry is a little hesitant to take that risk . At this point, I can see the Mets going with Backman to appease the grission crowd, but it would be odd to jump over a candidate like Tim Teufel who has been a loyal, competent, and controversy-free manager in...

The incomparable Marty Noble answers many of the fan inquiries with his usual mixture of information and wit. Among other ideas, he considers: Just what would it take, hypothetically, to bring Adrian Gonzalez to Queens? Noble believes a package of John Maine, Fernando Martinez and Ike Davis "and perhaps more would be one to consider seriously." Noble likes Joel Pineiro more than Jason Marquis,...

CINCINNATI – Ace pitcher Chris Carpenter hit a grand slam and drove in six runs, getting the St. Louis Cardinals back on track with his arm and bat in a 13-0 rout of the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Carpenter's first career homer capped a five-run second inning for the Cardinals, who had lost five of six including three straight since clinching the NL Central title with a win at Colorado last Saturday....
