This is a post I prepared shortly after the season ended but never put up for whatever reason. The recent Hardball Times article by Jeremy Greenhouse " Criminals of WAR ", which correctly posits that we shouldn't be slaves to Fangraphs WAR, provided a reminder that this information was sitting in my hard drive. Using Fangraphs WAR as a baseline, I incorporated baserunning and other non-UZR...

A while back, Jason Marquis began to lobby for a Mets contract offer through his friend and advocate Jeff Francoeur. Now he’s made a full-blown pitch, suggesting to Bart Hubbach that he and the Mets are a “perfect fit”. As we’ve discussed earlier, Jason Marquis needs the Mets involved if he’s to obtain a multi-year, multimillion-dollar [...]

This entry is part 34 in the series 2009 Mets EvaluationsWhen Jeff Francoeur was acquired from the Braves in return for Ryan Church, the immediate reaction was mixed. On the one hand, the Mets were getting a 25-year-old, high-energy outfielder who regressed for two and a half years after being considered a cornerstone player and [...]

Bart Hubbuch / New York Post : Marquis calls Mets ‘perfect fit’ — Jeff Francoeur wasn't kidding when he told The Post this summer that free-agent right hander Jason Marquis badly wants to be a Met in 2010. — Marquis backed that up this week, telling The Post he considers the Mets “a perfect fit” …

Meet the Mets I think I'll retract my desire to see Chone Figgins as a Met if it means him in left field and Castillo remaining at second . MLB Trade Rumors also passes along a quote saying that the Mets are not a desirable destination for players . Hot Foot argues that the Mets should take a flyer on Chien-Ming Wang . Mets Merized has taken on the mantle of being Jeff Francoeur 's primary defender...

According to a tweet by Bart Hubbach of the NY Post, the Mets plan to bring Jeff Francoeur back in 2010 — and may even negotiate a contract extension with him. I know the statheads like to point out his poor OBP, lack of walks, and some other deficiencies in his game (and they’re correct in [...]

I thought Jeff Francoeur was one of the few bright spots this year for the NY Mets, so it came as a surprise to hear many fans express apprehension about Frenchy's future with the team. At the end of the season there was discussion that the club could offer him an extension beyond his arbitration years. It was then that some fans expressed reservations about signing him long term and a few wanted him...

The New York Post's Bart Hubbuch has some good Mets info this afternoon, though it is unfortunately broken up into three tweets. Hubbuch learned that Mets GM Omar Minaya intends to watch Carlos Delgado in winter ball next month. Delgado could probably be re-signed cheaply after hip surgery limited the 37-year-old to 112 plate appearances this year. Cross Jeff Francoeur off the list of non-tender candidates...

He is one of the few winners of the mark of "defensive excellence" that actually deserves to be crowned. Here's what the Rays presser had on Longo: "It's the one award that I've wanted to win since I started pro ball," Longoria...

Jeff Francoeur underwent a surgical operation on his left thumb today, according to Marty Noble of MLB.com: The thumb injury which, at times, seemed to make Jeff Francoeur a better hitter has been repaired.
