The Pirates ' recent flurry of roster moves ( Jose Ascanio has been sent to the DL, Jeff Salazar has been designated for assignment, and Brian Bixler and Denny Bautista have been recalled from Indianapolis) demonstrate that the Bucs badly need relief help right now. There's no indication that Bautista is a legitimate answer; he has a track record of repeated failure in the major leagues, and nothing...

I missed most of the game, but I listened to the 9th on the radio and got to see the highlights. In lieu of a stock recap, here are some quick notes on the game. Jeff Salazar still can’t hit, going 0-3 to lower his average to an even .050, but he was outstanding in the [...]

By Dejan Kovacevic | 8:04 p.m. Thursday Among general manager Neal Huntington's comments just now: Outfielder Lastings Milledge, when promoted tomorrow, will be a "regular." That means the outfield will be Milledge, Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones, with Brandon Moss being sprinkled in. Huntington would not say who will go down tomorrow to clear space for Milledge, but that almost surely...

Not surprisingly, the Pirates made some roster moves after today's 5-0 loss. The Steves (Jackson and Pearce) got optioned to Indy, while Donnie Veal got activated from the DL and recalled from his rehab stint . The Bucs had to make the Veal move because his rehab stint had expired and Jackson is as good a candidate as any to send down. He'll be back up Sept. 1 if not sooner, and I think management...
