PHOENIX The first thing everyone notices about Stephen Strasburg is the fastball. Really, it's not even fair to call it a simple fastball, as though it were some 92 mph four-seamer coming out of the hand of Joe Blanton or Jeff Suppan. No, this is a high-and-tight heater that regularly reaches triple digits, yet emerges from Strasburg's right arm so effortlessly that batters don't realize its lethality...

The Milwaukee Brewers were smart to decline starting pitcher Braden Looper's $6.5 million mutual option, freeing up a significant amount of money to plug various holes. Looper led baseball in home runs, checking in at 194.2 innings of a 5.22 ERA. I don't think serving up all those home runs are sustainable, so it's likely he returns to a mid-4.50s ERA next year. Is that good enough to bring him back...

Because the Post-Crescent included the team in their "Buy Local" story yesterday . Sales of Timber Rattlers merchandise took off this year when the farm team became affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers. Hot sellers were co-branded items that had both teams' logos, said Jay Grusznski, merchandise manager for the store. He expects to have his best Christmas season ever because of renewed interest...

This could be one of my all time favorite MLBTR posts. Tim Dierkes scoured all of baseball's contracts and cribbed together the worst of the worst , the contracts any GM would love to get rid of. Happily, only Jeff Suppan (1 year, $14.5 million) is listed under the Brewers , though there are some other familiar names, including CoCo (2 years, $25 million) and Scott Linebrink (2 years, $10.5 million)....

Below are all of the former Timber Rattlers -- and Foxes -- who played in at least one major league game in 2009*. If I am missing someone, please let me know. But, I am pretty sure I got them all...all 32 of them. I have included the main stats for 2009. If you click on the name, you should be taken to their career stats page at mlb.com. From there, you can head to the individual player bio pages....

Boxscore Braun reaches 200 hits in victory Never one to lack for confidence, Ryan Braun admitted he surprised himself with his intensity over the past week in pushing to compile 200 hits in a season. "I don't think I've ever been able to have this level of focus as far as trying to achieve one singular goal or singular event," said the Milwaukee Brewers' all-star leftfielder. "I think...

The Brewers scored 12 unanswered runs in 3 innings last night, including four on wild pitches, to come back from a 6-0 deficit to beat the Cardinals 12-6. Ryan Braun got hits 198 and 199, as well as steal 19, leaving him just shy of a few landmarks. Braun scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch that didn't get too far away from Jadier Molina. Braun was dancing a bit at third, but despite BA's claims...

Boxscore Suppan shelled again Colorado closes in on wild-card berth The Milwaukee Brewers talked a lot about sending guys into the fall and winter on good notes and feeling positive about how they finish this season. That's what you get when your team falls out of the race early and continues to sputter toward the conclusion. For right-hander Jeff Suppan, this was - maybe - his last chance to end...
