News on Injured Pitchers

Jordan Bastian shared a few comments from Alex Anthopoulos about some of our injured pitchers on twitter: Shawn Marcum is healthy, ready to go and might be cleared to take a full workload next season. Jesse Litsch will be out till July. They are unsure about Dustin McGowan , he was shut down in October. The Jays are looking to pick someone up in the Rule 5 Draft. They have 11th pick. The 40-man roster...

What do the Jays have they can trade?

Mike Wilner, on the weekend, put out his 'plan' to 'save the Jays'. Actually it was his second suggested plan, on the theory that the Jays were going to raise the payroll to $120 million. This one is very trade heavy, trading off a bunch of pitchers (and Travis Snider ) for Felix Hernandez , Prince Fielder and a bunch of other guys. I always find suggesting trades is a tough thing because as a Jay's...

Blue Jays Report Card

The great Dave Till took care of this for us, year after year. I don't have Dave's fine sense of the classroom (it's been a while since I was actually in one, you know) but I'll do what I can. Something to do while I wait hopefully for Jim Balsillie to give up on his NHL dream (they don't want you, Jim, can't you see?) and turn his attention to baseball. Here's what the grades mean to me: A - Outstanding...

Series Preview: Yankees @ Jays

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Rogers Centre (4 games) This won't be a full preview, just the pitching matchup and injury reports. Sorry, I'm a little busy at the moment. All the Yankees have to do is keep doing what they done since Alex Rodriguez got back in May, and that's win. The Blue Jays stink, and have laid down to the Red Sox twice in the past two weeks. Hopefully they do the same this weekend against...

2007 Topps Updates and Highlights

Another 6-card pack from the infamous repack. Shaun Marcum Eric Hinske Cliff Floyd - Don't call him Cornelius. Even if he signs his contracts that way. Papelbon--Generation Now - Worst insert set ever. Jesse Litsch Alex Rodriguez--2007 AL All-Star - As time goes on, I find it harder and harder to believe that one of the greatest players of all time is one of the most under-appreciated. I actually kind...

(AP Photo/Paul Battaglia) Browse more photos » Hey all, this is part two of our two-part series on who is at fault for the long-term injuries we've seen to four MLB-ready starters since the Spring of 2008. In part one we looked at Dustin McGowan and Casey Janssen , our two pitchers recovering from labrum surgery. Today we'll look...

(AP Photo/Matt Slocum) Browse more photos » There has been a lot of discussion on the site recently about all of the pitching injuries the Blue Jays have sustained recently, so I thought it might be interesting to take a look at what could be causing them. In one of the comments to a recent...

More Injury News: Roy Halladay on DL

The Toronto Blue Jays Roy Halladay is on the 15-day DL. His stint on the DL is retroactive to June 13, thus he will be active to play on June 18, 2009. The injury to Halladay is said to be a right groin strain (not very different from that of Raul Ibanez). This is just the latest of injuries to the Blue Jays pitching staff that has already lost Ricky Romero, BJ Ryan and Jesse Litsch. And Scott Downs...

Halladay Hits DL, Richmond Shines

Scott Richmond absolutely lit up the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night. The 29-year-old rookie struck out a career-high 11 over eight innings and got some hefty run support from his Toronto Blue Jays for a 7-1 win. Richmond surrendered just five hits and retired his last 13 batters, which is a nice turn-around after going 0-3 with a 5.81 ERA over his previous five starts. The righty’s former...

Verducci and the Blue Jays

Hey, kids! It's Data Table Time! Back in November 2006, Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci wrote a column identifying a group of young pitchers he expected would struggle in the coming season. What concerned him was something he called the "Year-After Effect:" It's based on a general rule of thumb among executives and pitching coaches: young pitchers should not have their innings workload...
