White Sox lefty John Danks hopes to sign a multiyear extension with the White Sox, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. The 24-year-old is eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter. Though he was thrilled to receive it, Danks turned down a four-year, $15.5MM offer from the White Sox on the advice of his agent Jeff Berry before the season. Gavin Floyd accepted the same offer. With another...

I'll try to keep this short and sweet, highlighting areas of question for each team. I'll start with the Chicago White Sox. MUST-MAKE DECISIONS 1) Octavio Dotel: Arbitration, or not? Dotel – Walk 2) Jermaine Dye: Mutual option, arbitration, or not? Dye – Buyout FLEXIBLE DECISIONS 3) One-year contract for John Danks? If not, what would you pay to extend him? I think a multi-year

by Jack Dempsey - AP Is J.A. Happ a one year wonder? View full size photo uploaded October 22, 2009 Yesterday I posted an article discussing the pitchers with the best FIP, or Fielding Independent Pitching, which aims to give fantasy/roto owners a clearer picture of how well, or not so well, a pitcher performed in 2009. Today I give you the pitchers whose FIP was higher than their ERA in 2009, who...

Joey is travelling today. While we wait for his daily Rangers thoughts, perhaps you can join me in thinking about what the team is going to do with all of the starting pitching that it has accumulated. Provided below are the system-wide starters and the levels where I project that they should begin 2010. Rangers Millwood Feldman McCarthy Hunter Holland Feliz Nippert Moscoso Redhawks (AAA) Harrison...

One of my biggest pet peeves in professional sports announcing is when, at the end of a very close game, the announcers ascribe the victor's outcome to the fact that they "wanted it more." Or that they "played harder." At the end of a game, if the center fielder misses the catch, then guess what? That was the proximate cause of the loss. Were there other things that could have contributed?...

No matter which team you prefer, you're either sad to see baseball go or glad the long, torturous 2009 season is done. Benjy will wrap up the season for both teams (and look ahead to 2010) later in the week, but for now, here's what went down yesterday. Sox Rally Falls Short Down 5-0, the Sox put on a small rally late in their season finale but couldn't quite catch up as they fell to Detroit 5-3 ....

Who are these guys in the white uniforms scoring runs? Wait, the Detroit Tigers ? The same team that could only score one run in the previous two games of this series? Apparently, John Danks is just what this lineup needed to see. Tigers 3, White Sox 0 heading to the third inning.

The Detroit Tigers have played 161 games in this 2009 season, and it will take the final one on the schedule to determine this team's ultimate fate. If the Tigers win today, they will assure themselves of at least extending their season to a one-game tiebreaker on Tuesday. If they win and the...

OAKLAND, Calif. – Mark Ellis lined a home run just over the left-field wall with two outs in the ninth inning and the Oakland Athletics avoided a three-game sweep with a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Ellis hit his third career game-winning homer and first since June 8 last year against the Angels off Bobby Jenks (2-4), who had previously posted five straight scoreless outings. Scott...
