Jayson Stark of ESPN.com speculates that the Mets must be among six teams who have expressed interest in free-agent 1B Nick Johnson. …yes, johnson is a fantastic defensive first baseman and he’s one of the most patient, professional hitters i’ve ever seen… the problem is, i rarely ever see him… he’s been on the DL five [...]

The Mets would love to sign John Lackey, the No. 1 starter on the free-agent market. But if they don't, they want to add from a group that includes Joel Pineiro, Randy Wolf, Ben Sheets and Jason Marquis, according to two sources with knowledge of their plans. -snip- The Mets aren't pursuing free agent Rich Harden, one of the sources said. The Mets and I are opposites.

I am surprised by the general sentiments that have befallen over fellow HH’ers regarding John Lackey . It seems that many seem rather indifferent over whether we sign Big John or not. Many of the off-season posts are acting as if Lackey is as good as gone. Perhaps, this stems from a lack of confidence in our FO putting up the $ to re-sign him. But I ask you this: How is John Lackey NOT the face...

According to the Twitter feed of Buster Olney, "teams are being aggressive in pursuit of Randy Wolf, who is one of the best of FA starters not named Lackey." Wolf threw 214 1/3 innings with a 3.23 ERA in 2009, though it is worth noting that it was his first 200+ inning season since 2003. For comparison, John Lackey, who is the very best free agent starter who is named Lackey, pitched 176...

As noted earlier today , congrats to Kendry Morales for joining a select group of six other players in Angels HISTORY to finish in the top 5 in MVP balloting. Also kudos to Chone Figgins for becoming just the third player in Angels history to garner MVP votes in at least 4 different seasons (along with Vlad's 5 and Jim Fregosi's 8). Do you feel like looking at a (hopefully complete) list of Angels...

Both clubs are interested in the ace right-hander, although the possibility of the Dodgers landing him is called 'a long shot.' The Angels have resumed their pursuit of pitcher Roy Halladay, the Toronto Blue Jays ace who would be an extremely attractive alternative to free-agent right-hander John Lackey, with whom the team continues to negotiate.

ESPN Radio's Andrew Marchand wrote today that he was told by an MLB executive that John Lackey would be lucky to get a deal like the five-year $82.5 million that A.J. Burnett got from the Yankees last winter. The executive also said that won't be that many buyers this winter, and Lackey could come down to a bidding war between the Yankees and Mets.

Meet the Mets MLB is hoping to get the Mets to agree to play some of their road games against the Marlins in Puerto Rico. As Craig Calcaterra points out, this is good news for David Wright's fantasy overlords . The Mets are hoping to land John Lackey, but if he falls through they will look long and hard at Ben Sheets . Other names mentioned include Pineiro, Marquis, and Wolf . News that the Mets might...

In the last 12 hours, FoxSports.com, the New York Post and the Daily News all reported that, while the Mets would like to sign free-agent RHP John Lackey, they will also pursue, and are more likely to sign, one or two starting pitchers from a group that includes Joel Pineiro, Ben Sheets, Jason Marquis and Randy Wolf. By the way, be [...]

The Mets are busy crafting a Plan B in the event that they do not win the John Lackey sweepstakes, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. They would love to sign the market's top starter, but if they don't, they want to add from a group that includes Joel Pineiro, Randy Wolf, Ben Sheets, and Jason Marquis. According to a source, that group does not include Rich Harden. Rosenthal...

The Angels, Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets are all in interested in signing free agent John Lackey this winter. According to a report from MLB.com's Bill Ladson, you can add the Washington Nationals to that list as well. Ladson writes that the Nationals are looking for a veteran ace who can tutor pitchers such as John Lannan, Ross Detwiler, and Stephen Strasburg. Washington also flirted with signing a...

Its a trend that's been going on for some time now. I'm not sure when exactly it started, maybe it began with the Jose Contreras bidding, or maybe its part of the post 2004 paranoia that should have been banished last October. Regardless, I will never understand the fixation that most Yankees fans seem to have on the Boston Red Sox. Whenever we're discussing a potential move for the Yankees, the debate...

I've been looking at the list of free agents, and I'm not seeing anyone that I'm in any rush to buy. Matt Holliday is going to cost a fortune as a hitter, as is pitcher John Lackey . Both are very good, but overpriced in the current market. So, who's left? Jason Bay ? Chone Figgins ? For pitching, Randy Wolf or Rich Harden ? Maybe Mark DeRosa as a utility player? I'm just not seeing any quick fixes...

It’s been a while since the New York Yankees made a World Series and you need to go back nine years since they captured one, but both the sports betting public and fans alike are having a difficult time seeing anyone beating them this year. The Yankees had the best record in the entire regular season at 103-59 and swept the Minnesota Twins 3-0 in their American League Divisional Series. It won’t be...
