Chips Ahoy

According to Sun-Times beat reporter, Gordon Wittenmeyer , with the signing of John Grabow to a 2/7.5 contract (backended as only Jim Hendry can do) and the trading of Aaron Heilman to the Snakes, the Cubs have supposedly made their final bullpen move of the offseason. The deal appears to secure the final key piece to the Cubs' projected 2010 bullpen, coming one day after the team traded veteran Aaron...

Another Wang Decision

NYPost : As for Chien-Ming Wang, his agent, Alan Nero, said surgeon James Andrews cleared the righty to throw beginning on Dec. 1, and that he could be ready by mid-April or early May to pitch in regular-season games after shoulder surgery. However, Yankee doctors have not seen Wang and the team plans on non-tendering the righty rather than risk paying a minimum of $4 million for him in 2010. The Yanks...

Getting ready for tonight's ALCS Yankee victory

Well, when I did my ALCS predictions, I did say the Yankees would win in six games. It's just that I didn't expect the two losses to be so gut-wrenching! But tonight, everything changes. Tonight, the Yankees are going to win and head to the World Series for the first time since 2003. And I think that Yankee fans are confident that tonight is the night. How do I know this? Because it was pretty much...

Wait, so how exactly is this anything like 2004?

Yeah, I'm just not seeing it... View full size photo uploaded October 23, 2009 The 2009 ALCS and 2004 ALCS are practically mirror images of each other. Indistinguishable. Talk about carbon copies! I haven't seen this level of uncanny similarity since watching Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes in White Men Can't Jump. Yeah, that's about how alike these two series are. If I have to read one more thinly...

Wallace Matthews You Are On Notice for Charges of Lunacy

Time to bust out the FJM format again, this time on a Newsday columnist that I think is just trying to write something preposterous . Thursday, the Yankees were one victory away away from a triumphant return to the World Series. Friday, they are two losses removed from the worst postseason collapse in their history. Yes, this would be worse than coughing up a 3-0 lead to the Red Sox in 2004. Well now...

Joel Pineiro's Remarkable Turnaround

Joel Pineiro won again tonight to move his record to 13-9, and it looks like the Cardinals are a lock to win the NL Central (9 GM up). He is having his best year since 2003, when he went 16-11 for the Mariners. His W-L (13-9) and ERA (3.11) are good, but not spectacular (although he is 8-1 with a 2.47 ERA since late June). It is some of the other numbers, plus the degree to which he turned them around...

McCarver Again Pushes Innuendo As Fact

I was watching today's Red Sox-Yankees game on Fox (no need to discuss that), and in the fifth inning, the subject of discussion between Joe Buck and Tim McCarver was the Red Sox historic comeback in the 2004 ALCS. And once again, as he's done a few times before when the two teams have played each other, McCarver brought up a myth that he's now passing off as fact. "The Red Sox were congratulating...

Follow-up Appointment with the Disabled List.

More photos » by Winslow Townson - AP Dude, can you guess how many times I have been on the DL? Browse more photos » I have been getting several requests on where a certain player/team stands in the overall standings. I put together these tables of the top and bottom teams sending players to the DL and the players most often on the DL. I promise this will be the last of these long list...

2008 Cubs: Community Projection Review, Pitchers

It appears that the preseason project wasn't quite finished -- I only have final projection numbers for four pitchers, though I know we did three relievers as well as Jason Marquis and Jon Lieber. Here are the four we did. If anyone would like to go through the Community Projections section and tabulate the others, I'll post the rest of them tomorrow. Carlos Zambrano Projected: G 34, GS 33, IP 221.2,...
