Hangtown

HANGTOWN as by Logan Winters A Black Horse Western from Hale, October 2009 Of what use is a deserted ghost town? None at all unless like the old desert rat, Josh Banks and his young partner, Wage Carson, you have nowhere else to go and are tired of sleeping out with the rattlesnakes. In Hangtown, at least, they would have some shelter from the elements, some water for their weary mounts. In the spirit...

GM Towers: "I think he'd [Kyle Blanks] be pretty good behind the plate too."

XX Sports Radio: Kevin Towers interview (MP3) with Darren Smith Kevin Towers is a huge University of Oregon fan. He couldn't go to the game because he was in a meeting with Moorad and Garfinkel. Towers thinks that you can add 3/4's of a run onto a pitcher's ERA when they go from the NL to the AL. Towers would like for the AL to do away with the Designated Hitter. He would rather put money into pitching...

Five-run eighth propels Bees past Cats

Turning point: The Bees parlayed four singles, two wild pitches, one walk, a hit batter, and sacrifice fly into a five-run eighth inning that built a 7-2 cushion. Take a bow: Salt Lake starter Brad Knox allowed five hits but just one run in six innings, striking out four and walking two. Who's hot: River Cats catcher Eric Munson went 3 for 4 with a home run and two singles. Who's not: Sacramento first...

Tim Wakefield Becomes Oldest First-Time All-Star Since Satchel Page

At the age of 42, after uncorking thousands of knuckleballs since his major league debut with Pittsburgh in 1992, Tim Wakefield makes his first appearance Tuesday at the All-Star Game. He was a failed Class A first baseman prospect with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1989 when a scout told the team the words that saved his career: "If you're going to release him, make sure you look at his knuckleball."...

Today they send their ace, Chad Billingsley to the mound, who is looking once again for his 10th win. You know what they say, the fourth time is a charm! Open Thread, 7/2: Padres vs Astros

So yesterday, I was on the trolley and there were these Vietnamese students who seriously, not even kidding, looked like they were 11 or 12 years old. They were smoking cigarettes before they jumped on the trolley, so they must've been older. In any case, they sat right next to me and the one dude that I shared a seat with fell asleep almost right away. Another kid across from him started whispering...
