After posting last week about Buster Olney’s article and comments about arbitration-eligible players and free agents, the Twins traded Carlos Gomez to the Brewers for J.J. Hardy; the Red Sox traded Jose Alvarez and Hunter Jones to the Marlins for Jeremy Hermida; and the White Sox acquired Mark Teahen for Chris Getz and Josh Fields. Olney posted a column on his ESPN.com site (“Hermida’s...

The Rays got the ball rolling with last week's trade of defensively gifted second baseman Akinori Iwamura (the trade market is moving already, with J.J. Hardy moving from the Brewers to the Twins for Carlos Gomez, and Mark Teahen going from the Royals to the White Sox for Josh Fields and Chris Getz), and they have a potential outfield replacement ready for Crawford in Desmond Jennings. The White Sox...

by Ann Heisenfelt - AP View full size photo » In a weak free agent class, and maybe Omar Minaya's last year with the team, one would expect the Mets to make at least one splash in the trade market. So far, four semi-major trades have gone through, before the BBWAA has even announced its yearly award winners. The Mets didn't really "lose out" on any of those four players, but the trades...

Let's cash in one of the better offensive players we have to plug a defensive hole with a stopgap!!! I CAN'T WAIT!! http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=ellis-001and His minor league stats don't look terrible, and he is a Missouri native (Cape Girardeau), but I think we could...

A trade went down this past week that sent back and forth a few marginal mixed league players. The Kansas City Royals traded Mark Teahen to the White Sox for Josh Fields and Chris Getz. Teahen showed some breakout promise back in 2006, but hasn’t replicated those numbers since, even with more at bats. Josh [...]

All four of the Tigers' competitors in the A.L. Central made moves Friday. Here's how those moves look through the Tigers lens: White Sox: They let go of right fielder Jermaine Dye, 35, when they didn't pick up his $12 million noption for next season. Dye, a Tigers tormentor, has hit 16 career homers at Comerica Park -- the most by any visiting player in the 10-year history...

First, my own unsolicited take on this trade. The news that took eighteen hours or so to emerge was not tremendously good for the Royals . Sending the White Sox $2 million dollars changes the complexion of this trade significantly. Don't get me wrong, it's still a minor deal in the grand scheme of things, but the real benefit to the deal is now much more murkier. The financial savings is murkier, and...

Two overriding factors surfaced Friday in explaining the Royals’ decision to send third baseman/outfielder Mark Teahen to division-rival Chicago with cash for second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman/outfielder Josh Fields. Increasing inventory while gaining financial flexibility.

Few quick thoughts before we head into the weekend. First, it was a crazy week with a lot of moves happening seemingly as soon as the World Series ended. One of a flurry of moves, the Mark Teahen for Chris Getz/Josh Fields swap, became official today. Not exactly a blockbuster, but the Royals shed payroll and [...]
