Adam Rubin, in a post to his blog for the Daily News, lists the Mets who will be participating in winter ball during the off-season. Among those participating are Nelson Figueroa, Omir Santos, Pat Misch, Angel Pagan, Fernando Martinez, Tobi Stoner, Lance Broadway, and Josh Thole. For the entire list as well as their respective teams, check [...]
Early in September, loyal MetsToday reader “The DZA” made a content suggestion: Seeing as the off season is looking to be more intriguing than the regular - would you perhaps give us a... [[ This is a summary ... visit MetsToday.com for the full story ]]
Normally, when I am putting together a post for my literal baseball cards series, I take a player who has a last name that would be humorous if thought of literally. Last week, I was going to do this for the Mets, but I was inspired to do a more accurate representation of the miserable Mets. This week, I will continue with the tradition of picking on players with nutty nomenclature. From the Active...
After his last outing it was obvious that Misch wasn't long for the rotation. I still think he has the potential to be a solid second lefty in the bullpen. This season he posted a 2.89 ERA in 15 relief appearances ( 18 innings) this season, I expect him and Bostick competing in camp for that second lefty spot... Manager Jerry Manuel said Pat Misch will be available out of the bullpen Wednesday and...
The oft-scapegoated World Baseball Classic has a slaughter rule that would have been valuable to invoke last night, as first Pat Misch and then Lance Broadway proved they have excellent career prospects should teams need someone to throw BP. But alas, this wasn't a WBC game (there's something I never thought I'd type) and so on and on we went, while Gary, Keith and Ron grew increasingly strange (in...
Angels 5, Yankees 2: A righty-heavy Yankees lineup was befuddled by Angels starter Joe Saunders. A win would have allowed the Yankees to celebrate the clinching of a Wild Card berth, but the team is waiting for the bigger prize for its true celebration. The Yankees, who have lost three of four on this West Coast trip and six of 10 overall, still lead the American League East by five games after the...
The Braves defeated the Mets by the score of 11-3 tonight at Citi Field. For a full recap and box score, click here. The Least You Should Know: This one was over early – Pat Misch allowed eight runs and seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings tonight, and was relieved by Lance Broadway who, basically left all [...]
As I've said before, Andres M. is a big Mets fans who passes along items he comes across on the international sites, it so hard to find more then box scores and generic MLB updates from the winter leagues that anything he comes across is greatly appreciated. Andres has agreed to pass along what he comes across this winter along with translating it for us ( since a lot is missed in the bablefish interpretation)....
It seems like everywhere you turn in the Metsblogosphere Ike Davis is being mentioned, now those accolades have even begun to suggest that the young first baseman could end up in Queens next year. After years of watching Omar over inflate prospects and rush them to the majors, only to have them flop, I'm leery of anyone being placed on an accelerated path with him in charge. I've asked this several...
Inspired by this post at Gas Lamp Ball ( ed note: "inspired by" is just a nice way of saying "stolen from" ), and with a lot of help from the Internet Anagram Server , I managed to kill quite a bit of time this weekend. I plugged all of the 2009 Mets into the old anagram machine and here are the results. Feel free to try it yourself and post any other good ones in the comments....

Since Carlos Beltran went down on June 22nd, if you had asked me what was my biggest concern for next season it would be a big power bat. Whether it's to replace Carlos Delgado or to fill the left field spot that never was filled this off-season it's clear the team needs more offensive fire power. However, the Mets rotation is even in bigger shambles then the offense and I'm becoming concerned with...
The Mets were losing 3-2 after three innings of my listening to them. Then I had to abandon their game so I could see an old friend of mine remarry. Then, during the cocktail hour, I checked the final from Wrigley: Cubs 11 Mets 4 . You could have knocked me over with a feather. From the looks of the boxscore, the Cubs could have done the same to Bobby Parnell. Ah, but there was a most delightful detail...
I admit after his last outing when Mike Pelfrey gave up four runs in 5.2 innings on 11 hits and five walks, I was frustrated. Even after the game I had a conversation with another Mets fans and we both agreed that Pelfrey had taken a step back this year. But in reading an article by Brian Costa of the Star Ledger on Lance Broadway I realized that my expectations might be too high. Broadway was traded...
