The Twins have enjoyed an impressive run of sustained success over the past nine years. Only once during that span (2007) have they posted a losing record. And if there's one lesson to be taken from the '07 team, it relates to the pitfalls of complacency. In 2006, the Twins boasted a rather impressive offense. Joe Mauer won his first batting title, Justin Morneau captured the AL MVP award, Michael...

When Bill Smith took over as Twins' GM back in 2007, he wasted no time in completing his first roster purge, removing Josh Rabe, Luis Rodriguez, Lew Ford and Tommy Watkins from the 40-man roster just weeks after the regular season came to an end. I lauded the move at the time , noting that Smith was immediately "trimming the fat" and creating space on the roster for more useful players. Terry...

Louisville won 10-6 . Wes Bankston went 4-5 with his 17th HR of the year, Juan Francisco went 2-4 with a walk (!!), and Lew Ford started making his case to be on the 25 man roster next year by going 2-4 with his first homer. 23 year old groundball machine Enerio Del Rosario pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings. His ERA is 1.19 through 22 2/3 AAA innings. Carolina was off Sarasota was shut out 7-0 . Justin...

Louisville got the best of Toledo 3-2 behind another great outing by IL Pitcher of the Week Matt Klinker . Klinker went 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball, and struck out 7 while walking 2. Fresh off of the news that he'd be joining the AFL this fall, Logan Ondrusek pitched 2 innings for his 8th save in Louisville. Chris Heisey was 2-for-3 and Todd Frazier hit his 2nd AAA HR. Up next: Bats take on Toledo...

According to the MILB transactions feed, the Reds have signed OF Lew Ford to a minor-league deal. Ford, 33, returned from a stint in Japan with the Hanshin Tigers and previously had signed a deal with the Rockies this year but never got into game action. Ford last appeared in the majors in 2007 with the Twins, where he posted a .233/.315/.362 line.

The boys go boom. With Joe Mauer and Jason Kubel each launching another long ball Friday afternoon, the Twins have now belted 68 home runs in 63 games. This puts them on a pace for 175 home runs, which is a number they could surpass if everyone stays healthy, but even that pace would give them seventh place in franchise history for home runs. For your browsing pleasure, here are the top five bombers...

Despite dropping the first game to their division rival Ducks, the Riversharks rallied in game 2 to split the doubleheader on Tuesday at Citibank Park. Since both teams won, Long Island and Camden’s record moves to 22-22 on the season. The reason for the twin bill was due to May 16th rainout when Camden traveled to Long Island for the first head-to-head series. In game 1, starting pitcher Josh...

What happens to former major leaguers who can’t catch on with a team? Many of them go to independent leagues. For instance, we’ve seen Shawn Chacon surface with the Newark Bears and the likes of Preston Wilson, Lew Ford, and Brad Halsey hit Gary Carter’s Long Island Ducks. Some, though, head to the Mexican league. [...] Post from: River Ave. Blues A New York Yankees blog

Ducks manager Gary Carter knows Lew Ford can play the outfield. And despite his .166 average through seven games, he says he knows he can hit. After all, the five-year major-league veteran has a .272 lifetime batting average at the big-league level.
