FOXSports, citing a Major League source, has listed the Phillies as the favorites to land Mark DeRosa. Despite a 23-homer season, expectations should be tempered. In a nutshell, here’s the problem with Mark DeRosa: we’ve seen him before and didn’t like the results. The Phillies need a third baseman. For various reasons, some good (the existence of Chipper Jones), some not so good...

The payroll isn’t going up much , despite a year of record attendance and post-season revenues I assume they didn’t budget for but...

Here are a few stories worthy of discussion today Around the Yankee Universe. Infielder Mark DeRosa's glove could be good fit Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News is suggesting that the Yankees pursue DeRosa, the veteran utility man. If the Yankees bring back Johnny Damon , DeRosa would be a good fit because he could play left field on days when Damon serves as the designated hitter. DeRosa, who...

It is amazing how dates like this can sneak up on you when your expectations are nil. The Indians were semi-active last season in free agency. They went out and signed Mark DeRosa, Carl Pavano, and Kerry Wood. This season? Not so much. At this point, it is tough for me to even sit here [...]

The Mets appear to be in the market for a super utility player, whether it's Chone Figgins or Mark DeRosa they seem to be looking for a player who will provide a solid bat and over 100 games in a season at several different positions. The problem with either of those players is that they appear to be hot commodities and the team will have to give multiple year contracts at top dollar for a player with...

Mark DeRosa is a 34 y/o right handed hitting super utility, despite not having a primary position DeRosa has played 100 games or more in the last seven of eight years. He has over 300 games at 2B and 3B, 150 games in right field, over 100 games at SS, 50 games in left field and 20 games at 1B. He is a .275 lifetime hitter with a .343 OBP and a .767 OPS. I think DeRosa would be a great addition but...

MLB.com thinks so. That the Phillies want him and that he'd be interested in the Phillies are the easy part. What the article doesn't ask or answer is "in what role?" The Phillies have been looking for a supersub who can play many positions and not cause a dropoff in production. They would love not to have their regulars play 155 games a year and give them more meaningful rest. That would...
