MLB.com's Joe Frisaro has a few Marlins rumblings... The Marlins are prepared to pay Cody Ross and Jorge Cantu in 2010, although both players will receive raises through arbitration. Frisaro feels that two of Renyel Pinto, Matt Lindstrom, and Leo Nunez will be traded. All three relievers are eligible for arbitration for the first time. Frisaro feels that Vladimir Guerrero is not a fit for the Marlins,...

So, I'm trying a new format today. Thoughts? Criticisms? Meet the Mets Mets will try to keep Figgins from Philadelphia I don't exactly have a place to put him, but would love to have Figgins. Jon Heyman twitters that the Mets will look at Pineiro 3 years $30 million is awfully steep for a one-year wonder. 1986 + MTV H/t to Metsmerized. Who would have ever known that Lenny Dykstra would reach such heights....

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald packs his Marlins rumors into one paragraph: We hear the Marlins have been getting trade inquiries about Matt Lindstrom and are considering dealing him. One Marlins official said Leo Nuñez seems better-suited to close games. The Marlins lean toward keeping Jorge Cantu (who has drawn interest) but would consider an extraordinary offer. Dan Uggla remains likely...

Joe Girardi's bizarre bullpen move in the 11th inning tonight reminded me of something that Jerry Manuel did way back in April. On April 29, the Mets were trailing the Marlins, 4-3, when they loaded the bases with two outs in the bottome of the ninth. Ramon Castro was coming up. Then Jerry Manuel pinch-hit Omir Santos for Castro. A righthanded catcher pinch-hitting for another righthanded catcher....

Losing the closer's job was a humbling experience for Matt Lindstrom. But he said taking a back seat to other relievers in late-inning situations also has been difficult.

It seems like everywhere you turn in the Metsblogosphere Ike Davis is being mentioned, now those accolades have even begun to suggest that the young first baseman could end up in Queens next year. After years of watching Omar over inflate prospects and rush them to the majors, only to have them flop, I'm leery of anyone being placed on an accelerated path with him in charge. I've asked this several...

Matt Lindstrom (notes) fits the Hollywood closer prototype – imposing size (6-4, 220 pounds) and exploding fastball (96.3 mph average in ‘09, sixth fastest among pitchers with at least 10 innings logged). But before landing on the DL in late June with a sprained throwing elbow, he was too wild (20 BB in 29 IP) [...]

Matt Lindstrom said he is more interested in helping the Marlins reach the playoffs than he is in reclaiming the closer's role. But he said he eventually would like to be given another shot at the ninth-inning role, perhaps next season.

Matt Lindstrom , apparently, is still in line to be the closer this season . Gonzalez said he wants to see Matt Lindstrom throw on consecutive nights before entertaining the idea of moving him into the closer's role. He said Lindstrom, who has had three scoreless appearances since returning from the disabled list Aug. 1, could get his first opportunity to close if current closer Leo Nuñez pitches...

After last night's game, we heard that Gaby Sanchez and Brett Carroll were optioned to the minors. This brought a scream of disapproval from the back seat by LadyFish, Spud hitting the breaks, a call from GameFish and me saying what did they say . The Marlins optioned infielder Gaby Sanchez and outfielder Brett Carroll to Class AAA New Orleans after Friday’s game. Right-hander Matt Lindstrom...

Reliever Matt Lindstrom is determined to show the Marlins that he can be a valuable contributor down the stretch -- whether or not he reclaims the closer's role that he lost when he went on the disabled list.

One of the allegations against Tony Bernazard was that players who got on his bad side could be buried within the organization. Now, this isn't another Bernazard bash post, in fact I'm trying to focus on baseball and the people who are still around that are making the decisions. But there are at least two players who I feel should get a chance with the major league team, that seem to have been buried...

Matt Lindstrom could return to the Marlins as early as the end of next week. And just when you thought you could flush your high-blood pressure medicine down the toilet. But take heart, he won't immediately be closing . Marlins reliever Matt Lindstrom, on the disabled list since June 24 with a right elbow sprain, will pitch in a rehab assignment game for Class A Jupiter on Saturday. --- If all goes...
