Royals Seeking A Catcher

After declining their 2010 option for Miguel Olivo, the Royals are searching for a catcher according to Bob Dutton of The KC Star. Dutton mentions that it would be best for the team to fill their hole behind the plate prior to December 12th, allowing them to non-tender the incumbent John Buck. “We led all of baseball (last season) in passed balls and wild pitches,” general manager Dayton...

Royals notebook: Options declined on Crisp, Olivo and Yabuta

It wasn’t just Mark Teahen who became an ex-Royal on Friday. The club also bought its way out of 2010 contract options on outfielder Coco Crisp, catcher Miguel Olivo and reliever Yasuhiko Yabuta. The moves were expected — but came at a combined cost of $1.1 million.

Royals Decline Options On Crisp, Olivo, Yabuta

The Royals declined their 2010 options on Coco Crisp, Miguel Olivo, and Yasuhiko Yabuta, according to a team press release. On Crisp, the Royals chose his $500K buyout over his $8MM option. It's possible the Royals will offer Crisp an incentive-laden deal (he had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders this summer). The Royals plan to go in a different direction than Olivo at catcher; they may also...

The Royals have three such decision to make, involving Coco Crisp, Miguel Olivo, and Yasuhiko Yabuta. Bob Dutton of The KC Star breaks down what we might see happen with those three... The Royals are on the clock with Olivo

I've already posted on the Royals catchers, this is simply an up-date. Miguel Olivo would be a solid option for our catching vacancy but if the Royals keep him then they may need to move either Pena or Buck. The Royals have three days to decide on Olivo's option which is 3.3M, if they pick-it up but he declines ( mutual option) then he gets 100k buyout... Olivo, 31, had a career-best and club-leading...

The Royals catchers could interest us...

The Royals have some decisions to make behind the plate, they are said to be discussing shaking things up. They currently have three catchers, who could all be available this off-season. Olivo has a club option while Pena and Buck are both non-tender candidates. Of course, the Royals will attempt to move them before they non-tender anyone. Miguel Olivo is the veteran of the group, the 31 y/o right...

2010 Hitters/Fielders - Snapshot of the roster

Similar to the 2010 Relievers post from several days ago, this is meant to present a snapshot of who remains on the roster, can we jettison some dead weight, and are there any holes to be filled? The particulars about how many batters the team keeps on the 25-man and how many infielders/outfielders/Teahen-Bloomquist-IF/OF hybrids are kept will have a factor in the final roster (please allow some leeway...

Royal's Strike Zone Judgement

Yesterday at Beyond the Box Score I wanted to see if Vladimir Guerrero was able to determine if a pitch was out of the strike zone and the results. The only person I could think of with worse strike zone judgement was Miguel Olivo . I ran the same numbers for Olivo and a few other Royals . For my strike zone, I used -1.2 and 1.2 for the x dimension and 1.5 to 3.5 for the y dimension. For the expanded...
