A Few AFL PITCHf/x Leaders

More photos » by Manuel Balce Ceneta - AP Drew Storen can do this for real, too. Browse more photos » I like the Arizona Fall League. I've been tracking and classifying a lot pitches, thanks to the PITCHf/x installations in Peoria and Surprise. Nearly 10,000 pitches through Saturday's Rising Stars Game. Let's take a look-see at some of my favorite stats. These are based only on PITCHf/x...

Speed Check - AFL vs. MLB

Stephen Strasburg 's fastball is raising some interesting questions. While Strasburg was on the mound on Monday, a Tweet and an email (so old fashioned) came in asking about the Surprise, AZ, PITCHf/x data. Was it hot? Strasburg throwing 101 was a surprise to many, and seeing him sit near 98 for a few innings raised more questions. I took a look at the two PITCHf/x installations in the Arizona Fall...

200 innings seems to be a favorite line in the sand for evaluating the durability of a starting pitcher. One thing the Cardinals have shown a plethora of this season is pitchers who are on the cusp of being ready for the majors. Replacement level guys like Mitchell Boggs or Mike Parisi as well as someone like Brad Thompson who seems capable of making 6-8 effective spot starts a year. One way to leverage...

Kyle Lohse Appeals, Adam Wainwright To Start, Josh Kinney To Springfield, Mike Parisi Has Surgery, Yadier Molina Day-To-Day

Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse has appealed a five-game suspension Major League Baseball slapped on him Wednesday in response to an exchange of high-and-tight fastballs Sunday in Cincinnati. The league, in a release, said Lohse "intentionally (threw) a pitch in the head area of Edinson Volquez," Cincinnati's starting pitcher. STL Today

Adam Wainwright's Status, Mike Parisi May Have Surgery, Ryan Ludwick's HR, Fielding Percentage

Adam Wainwright makes his third and perhaps final minor-league rehab appearance tonight at Class AA Springfield. However, on a day when Chris Carpenter's availability fell into question for at least the remainder of August, the Cardinals remained decidedly noncommittal about when and how Wainwright will be asked to contribute. Parisi?

"So for the second time this year , Andre Ethier gets a walk-off base hit - against a very tough lefthanded reliever." - Vin Scully Missing the nuance of the punctuation, I thought this was implying that Mike Parisi was a very tough lefthanded reliever. (It is implying that J.C. Romero is a very tough lefthanded reliever, which I'm not so sure I agree with but is certainly reasonable.)
