More buzz Royals interested in Pagan..

About two weeks ago Adam Rubin reported that the Royals had interest in Angel Pagan and were looking to dump Jose Guillen ( here ) , connecting the dots he speculated on the teams having a possible match. That's rumor/speculation caused quite a fire storm but it wasn't the only time Pagan's name came up, about a week later Ken Rosenthal reported that teams were interested is Pagan as a starting center...

The swing of the bat in the blink of an eye

When he stops and thinks about it, Royals outfielder Mitch Maier is amazed that anyone can hit a home run. “It’s crazy,” Maier said earlier this year. “Hitting a round ball with a round bat, moving 90 mph. It’s not always moving straight, it’s sinking or a curveball.”

2010 Hitters/Fielders - Snapshot of the roster

Similar to the 2010 Relievers post from several days ago, this is meant to present a snapshot of who remains on the roster, can we jettison some dead weight, and are there any holes to be filled? The particulars about how many batters the team keeps on the 25-man and how many infielders/outfielders/Teahen-Bloomquist-IF/OF hybrids are kept will have a factor in the final roster (please allow some leeway...

Royal Centerfield Defense in 2009

Here's a look at the UZR/150 numbers for 2009. Innings UZR/150 Crisp 412 13.9 Maier 593 2.7 DeJesus 25 -1.4 Freel 32 -2.0 Bloomquist 164 -2.2 Anderson 192 -3.0 I think we can mostly throw out the data for DDJ and Freel, who simply weren't in centerfield enough to generate a meaningful sample. Considering that UZR/150 is a rate stat (what their UZR would be in 150 games) a -1.4 or a -2.0 is basically...

An Offseason Process I Could Trust

So this is what I am left with: doomed to follow a baseball team that uses pre-modern techniques for assessing players I am forced to come up with my own alternate reality that I hope will happen. I will list some groups of players that I would look to acquire at each position we need. I admit the plan is not "sexy" but it better positions us for 2011/12 and should improve the club next season....

Game 159: Enjoying the fruits of Joba's [lack of] labor

by Charles Krupa - AP "Si no ases buen trabajo, estaras enserada aqui con las cucarachas por dos semanas sin agua y sin comida!" --Mouth, in "The Goonies" View full size photo uploaded September 30, 2009 So this was the master plan all along, huh, Joe? The nebullous parameters of the Joba Rules, the sometimes shady secrecy of it all, the constant crap shoot of his efficacy in each...

Study: Greinke A 25-Game Winner In New York (And Additional Thoughts)

This research done about 10 days ago concludes what many suspect – Zack Greinke would be making history in New York right now. When this blog post came out, the research indicated Greinke would be 23-3. Meanwhile, when you place C.C. Sabathia on the Kansas City Royals, he would be just 9-11. How it was done: I took each pitcher’s first 30 starts (Greinke has 30, Sabathia has 31 on the...
