Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer answers readers' questions in a mailbag piece. Within the article, he provides his opinions on a few Indians-related topics.... There's "no way" the Indians will sign someone as expensive as Kerry Wood this year. If the club is involved in signing free agents at all, Hoynes expects the deals to happen later in the offseason, and at very little cost....

Today, Dying Quail posted his shoestring-budget plan for the Astros offseason, and it included signing a top-tier reclamation project so that new pitching coach Brad Arnsberg could work his magic. I like the idea of going for upside this offseason with our pitching signings...I'm not really up for repeating the Hampton/Ortiz experience next season. Inspired, I've cobbled together quick profiles on...

The Giants had a pretty busy day yesterday, re-signing second baseman Freddy Sanchez to a two-year deal, and outrighting lefty Noah Lowry, making him a free agent. Henry Schulman of The SF Chronicle has some more Giants' rumors for us this morning... GM Brian Sabean says he sees a "later-developing market. We don't have a relative sense of urgency like last year, which will play in our favor."...

You know, even that's a stretch. However, there are two bits of MLB news that could affect how the 2010 Brewers shape up. Besides, on a slow day like today, what more do you want? Breaking out of San Francisco: Item 1: Would-be free-agent Freddy Sanchez re-signs with the Giants (2 years/$12 million). There are only a handful of productive second-basemen on the FA market, so it's a big deal when a 3-time...

In a bad economy, many teams are going to face tough choices on how to budget their funds to build the best teams possible. Many intelligent teams are trending toward locking their talented young players up early, and avoiding the arbitration process as much as possible. For some players who are eligible for arbitration, the fact that tendering them a contract would assure they are paid at least 80%...

#48 LHP Pat Misch, congratulations on the first career victory in the major leagues. It's a testament to his talent that Misch has lasted this long without earning a win. Misch had tied a major league record by going 0-12 in starts, overall; he's made 55 appearances since 2006 without recording a single win. If he didn't have at least decent stuff he would be long gone from baseball. Misch won his...

Maybe I'm living in Fantasyland, but I have this vision of all the adults involved in the Noah Lowry situation calming down by this winter, sitting around a conference table and deciding the best thing for all is Lowry re-signing a minor-league make-good contract for 2010. I say so for one simple...
