Here's a concern moving forward, unless the Mets are going to build an incredible offense to over compensate for a mediocre rotation they need a solid number two pitcher. I Don't see the Mets signing Matt Holliday, Bengie Molina, Orlando Hudson, Garret Atkins ( for the bench) and trading for Adrian Gonzalez, so the rotation will need to be addressed. As far as free agency, there is John Lackey who...

Congrats to Bert for winning another Silver Slugger Award just a little while ago. It’s his 5th SS Award (rumor has it that some are prominently displayed in Oliver Perez’s apartment, while the others are at PNC Park). This is not to be confused with the Silver Thugger Award, awarded to Hooks and [...]

There is a part of me that wants to apologize for a lack of recent posting despite some crazy things that are going on in our sports world. But there are just times that the real world gives us more than we can handle and we can't serve you -- our loyal readers. Heck, our memory is so shot, we forgot Oliver Perez went to Pittsburgh with Jason Bay. (Our minds are fried.) So, until everything

Ken Davidoff of Newsday says Oliver Perez is in Arizona at the Athletes Performance Institute, “and he’ll receive visitors this winter in Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen and trainer Ray Ramirez.” According to MLB.com, “The Athletes Performance Institute is a high-tech fitness boot camp for professionals,” with a focus on nutrition, metabolic testing, cardiovascular work,...

In a report yesterday from the GM Meetings in Chicago, Jon Heyman of SI.com said the Mets are expected to make a play for free-agent LHP Randy Wolf. According to Heyman, ‘The Mets have interest in a do-over in their decision to go for Oliver Perez over Wolf last winter.’ Wolf has been ranked a Type A [...]

In an appearance on the MLB Network today, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said the Mets would ‘love a do-over’ with free-agent LHP Randy Wolf, who they had a chance to sign to a one-year deal last off season, but instead they chose to re-sign Oliver Perez. The 33–year-old Wolf was 11–7 with a 3.23 ERA in 34 [...]

(Cubs GM Jim Hendry and Milton Bradley, back before they got to know each other) When Buster Olney floats the possibility of an (admittedly unlikely) Oliver Perez-for-Milton Bradley swap. the circumstances are rather obvious ; the only way the Cubs will be able to <strike>jettison an obvious scapegoat </strike> escape their contractual obligations to their tempermental [...]

More photos » by Ben Margot - AP Browse more photos » Yesterday, Jon Heyman "tweeted" that the Mets wouldn't be pushing hard for John Lackey . I was happy to hear this news, but puzzled when I read on metsblog that 69% of their readers would prefer Lackey to Matt Holliday , assuming a choice between the two. For those of you wanting Lackey, hopefully I can try and account for...

To say that Oliver Perez had a difficult 2009 season would be an understatement. Good thing for Ollie he married his wife prior to spring training, or the year could’ve been a total loss. Perez spent most of the season on the disabled list, and pitched poorly during those brief stints off of it. his season-long [...]

If you are a Mets fan, you are all-too-familiar with: - Mike Pelfrey’s “yips” - Oliver Perez’s “Jekyll and Hyde” routine - Frequent mental lapses on the bases and in the field - Team-wide choking that led to late-season collapses in 2007 and 2008 - Finger-pointing and under-the-bus throwing by players These issues were running through my mind while having a [...]...

The spirit of the 2009 Mets lives on in the Tennessee Titans, who were expected to contend this year but are now 0-6 after getting humiliated by the Patriots, 59-0. Many observers thought that the Titans appeared to give up against New England. But Titans coach Jeff Fisher has an odd way of bringing the winning spirit back to Tennessee. Fisher appeared in public Tuesday wearing an Indianapolis Colts...
