If you’re looking for a knowledgeable perspective on pitching performances, you can do a lot worse than checking in with Paul Byrd. The 38-year-old righthander, who is viewed by many as a future pitching coach, weighed in on the Angels’ three-game sweep of the Red Sox in the ALDS. On his assessment of the series: “I [...]

Rocco Baldelli will not be active for the ALDS with the Angels, due to his hip flexor problem. He will be eligible for the ALCS should the Red Sox advance. That means that Brian Anderson and Joey Gathright will be on the roster. Anderson has a terrific glove but absolutely no stick. Neither are a big threat off the bench, so Baldelli's presence will be missed. Here is the final Red Sox ALDS roster:...

The Red Sox on Thursday afternoon finalized their roster for their American League Division Series against the Angels, choosing Brian Anderson as the final outfielder over Rocco Baldelli, who is suffering from a strained hip flexor. The other reserve outfielder will be Joey Gathright, a speedster who could be called upon as a pinch runner in the late innings. On Wednesday night, the Sox chose Paul...

Kevin Baxter / Angels Unplugged : Paul Byrd's heart is still in Anaheim — Paul Byrd will find out soon whether he'll be on the Red Sox roster for the American League Division Series. And if he makes it, it figures to be a bittersweet accomplishment because if Byrd was watching the series from home, he'd probably be cheering for the Angels.

With the deadline for rosters today at 10 a.m. Pacific time, the Red Sox were under no imperative to finalize things yesterday. But they did make some decisions regarding their pitching staff - including keeping Manny Delcarmen off the Division Series roster and adding Paul Byrd .

Paul Byrd will be the 11th man on the Red Sox's pitching staff. Manny Delcarmen posted a 7.27 ERA since the All-Star break and suffered back and neck stiffness after a car accident on Saturday. According to the rules, MDC is also ineligible for the ALCS, but he could be placed on the World Series roster. The team will wait until tomorrow's roster deadline (1 PM EST) before making a decision on Rocco...

The Red Sox made a wise move tonight, activating Paul Byrd for the ALDS and shelving Manny Delcarmen for the series. Byrd figures to be long man out of the pen, someone the Sox can turn to if they need someone to eat up valuable innings should a starter go down or be terribly ineffective. Delcarmen did nothing over the final games to show he belongs as anything other than a garbage time pitcher. Jed...

Even though Manny Delcarmen showed no linger effects from this weekend's car accident, he has been left off of the Red Sox ALDS roster. Paul Byrd will be the 11th man on the pitching staff and will come out of the bullpen. "We just talked to Manny," Francona said. "We're going to not activate him for this series. He actually threw pretty well yesterday. He'll be down today, he'll throw...
