TV Squad Ten: Guiding Light's greatest characters of the last 25 years

Filed under: OpEd , Daytime , Reality-Free , TV Squad Ten When Guiding Light airs its final episode today, it won't just be the end of a remarkable television success story -- one that has endured on radio and TV for 72 years -- it will also lower the curtain on some of the most memorable characters ever. In the past 25 years that I've been watching Guiding Light , I've had the pleasure of watching...

Game Thread for Jays and Pirates

A bit slow getting this up. Jays made a couple of moves today, trading Curtis Thigpen to Oakland and releasing Mike Maroth and Rick Bauer (not Brian Burres as I said earlier). Maroth is no surprise, with a knee that needs surgery, he really wasn't going to make it back to the majors. Doc is pitching for us tonight, he's had a couple of less than great starts his last two times out but apparently is...

Pitchers For the First Spring Games

To paraphrase Tom Selleck in Mr. Baseball, actual baseball is actually going to happen this week. The Globe's Jeff Blair has the planned pitchers for the first couple of spring games. Halladay will pitch Saturday. Wednesday Brett Cecil starts and Rickey Romero, BJ Ryan, Brian Burres and Rick Bauer are scheduled to pitch. I hope there is a way we can see this game, I'd like to watch Cecil. Thursday...

Joe Borowski: He Gone

In a move that appears to be long overdue: CLEVELAND, OH — The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled RHP JENSEN LEWIS & RHP BRIAN SLOCUM from AAA Buffalo. To make room for Lewis and Slocum the club has designated RHP JOE BOROWSKI & RHP RICK BAUER for assignment. This will at least give Mark [...]

Borowski Designated For Assignment

According to Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com, the Indians have designated reliever Joe Borowski for assignment. Rick Bauer was designated as well in the bullpen shakeup. The Indians will now move to a committee approach for the ninth innings. Borowski, 37, battled injuries en route to a 7.56 ERA in 18 appearances. Maybe the Marlins could bring him back and try to get something out of him.

Joe Borowski is Back

Twins 8, Indians 5 (box) While the “LeCharles Bentley is Back” post went by the wayside, we can officially welcome back the return of closer Joe Borowski. While Scot Elarton, Rick Bauer and Rafael Betancourt combined for five innings of one-hit ball, including five strikeouts, JoBo came in for the ninth inning and promptly allowed the [...]

THE NEWBERG REPORT -- MARCH 26, 2007

A few things. The reason Adam Fox was added to the 40-man roster this afternoon is that you can only designate a player for assignment when the roster is otherwise full, and so in order to DFA Rick Bauer, Texas...

Rick Bauer DFA'd, Adam Fox (yes, Adam Fox) added to 40 man roster

Rick Bauer has been designated for assignment, with the Rangers purchasing the contract of minor league infielder Adam Fox. Bauer being DFA'd isn't exactly news...the whole reason the Rangers didn't non-tender him this winter was so that they could try to deal him this spring. The Rangers now have 10 days to trade Bauer, waive him, or release him. So, the question is...why today? And why purchase...
