Supposedly, the easiest position at which to find a hitter is first base. Alas, we are Giants fans. It's a little disingenuous to say there's a post-Will curse on the organization -- J.T. Snow did provide a couple of fantastic years to bookend the meh -- but there hasn't been a lot of offense from first base since Will Clark left. The Sabean-led Giants are the kind of organization that can look at...

One player you want. Cull the free agent list , and name your guy. It’s a rosterbation sensation! Nick Johnson is my guy, and I know it might not be especially rational. If Nick Johnson were a regular reader, he would probably raise his eyebrows at the suggestion that the Giants should spend a lot of money on an oft-injured, 30-year-old who plays a position at which the Giants have a decent option....

On Saturday, the Giants finalized a 2 year contract extension with Freddy Sanchez, who they acquired in July for Tim Alderson. The new deal for Sanchez will pay him 12 million over the next 2 seasons instead of 8.5 million for just 2010, which was his option for 2010. I've voiced my disappointment in Sanchez a few times here since the Giants dealt for him over the summer. He wasn't able to stay on...

Of course I want a big name, power hitting 1B and I'd be a fool to not want the report that Adrian Gonzalez has been left off the Padres brochure to mean that he's available with the Mets having a chance to get him. But I'm also trying to be realistic, which is why I've taken to heart the reports that the Mets are going to look smaller at the position and go with a right handed platoon partner for...

It's silly season for baseball. Without any games of note, the idle mind turns to rosterbation. As the offseason progresses, it becomes more complex and convoluted. It moves from "sign six players for a combined $100B," to a four-way deal that uses obscure passages from the collective bargaining agreement to get Hanley Ramirez for Dan Runzler and 19th-century promissory notes from the Bank...

The majority of the Giants' fan-core have been very open about there displeasure for Brian Sabean's trades from this last summer. Sabean sent two of the teams top-5 pitching prospects (#2 Tim Alderson and #5 Scott Barnes) away in separate trades for Freddy Sanchez and Ryan Garko, and their first 2 months in the orange and black couldn't have gone much worse for them. For Freddy Sanchez, it was a problem...

Ike Davis continues to make a name for himself, while I'd like the Mets to sign or trade for a player who would completely block Davis for next year ( Adam LaRoche), so that they wouldn't be tempted to bring him up, I think they'll do the exact opposite. I think the Mets will bring in a marginal player or re-sign Tatis. As I said yesterday if this is the route they take, my choice would be Ryan Garko....

With so many people expressing mixed emotions about the Bochy / Sabean extensions over the past couple of weeks, I wanted to take a little bit more of an in-depth look at what these two have done here during their time in San Francisco. It's no secret that Sabean has made big time mistakes over the past couple of years through free-agency. He signed Aaron Rowand and Barry Zito to multi-year deals that...

If Adam Rubin's information is accurate and I have no reason to believe it's not, since he always appears to be spot on in my book, then the Mets are looking for a right handed platoon partner for Murphy at first base... I've felt that one of Omar's biggest failures since after the 2006 season is his inability to make in-season adjust specifically by making smaller role player moves in-season. Look...

According to Adam Rubin his sources believe that the Mets will look to fill the power void with a left fielder through free agency while trading for a right handed 1B to platoon with Murphy. This appears to be a result of the market along with the emergence of Ike Davis. The market has several quality left fielders, lead by Matt Holliday and Jason Bay, who if your willing to pay would be a great addition...

Though it wasn't official at the time, it was made pretty apparent in the Giants' postseason press conference last week that both manager Bruce Bochy and general manager Brian Sabean would be returning to the team for the 2010 season. On Tuesday, it became official, as both signed 2 year extensions with the Giants, with a club option for 2012 on both. I'm still not too thrilled with the fact that both...

Back at the trade deadline, I wrote the following: Forget Freddy Sanchez. I don't have a problem with average-dependent players, per se, but this one is hurt. We'll give up a top prospect, but we'll only get 107 at-bats of nothingness. Forget Ryan Garko. He'll slump, and then he'll be buried by a manager who manages like he's the lead in Memento . If Garko doesn't make Bochy tattoo his name within...

After putting my daughter to bed last night, I sat on the couch and watched the Dodgers / Cardinals game. I had a glass of Bulleit Bourbon on one side and a gigantic cat on the other. I sipped the bourbon. I watched some baseball. I skritched the cat. The Giants not making the playoffs is a bad thing, but there are some benefits. In an alternate reality, the Giants did squeak into the playoffs. I had...
