Bill James Strong Season Leading Index

I’m off to bed soon so I’m going to wait to explain this until tomorrow. I just wanted to put this up. Bill James came up with a method to predict whether or not a player who had 400 or more PA’s in a season would be at least as good the following season. This was published in The Hardball Times Baseball Annual 2010. High scores are better, but all of these correspond to a percentage...

Bill James 2010 Projections for Cubs

Fangraphs is once again going to list the projections on their player pages from a variety of sources, Bill James , CHONE, Marcel....maybe more. Bill James projections are up first and here's how the Cubs ranked by wOBA and their 2009 wOBA ( explanation of wOBA here ). I'll try and expand when new projections are released. Age is their 2010 playing age. You can click on their names to get their full...

Rowand for Bradley: The idea that just won't die

I've worked with some real freaks. I've trained a woman who, when the mouse reached the bottom of the mousepad, could not continue working until someone helped her figure out what to do. I worked with a person who ate peanuts constantly, chewed with her mouth open, and did it while asking you a question from six inches away. Just yesterday, my boss microwaved a hodgepodge of Halloween candy until it...

Theriot had a lot of value after 2007?

I don’t know why I do this to myself. I generally try to avoid doing this, but I accidentally read a comment written by Chuck as I was reading through ccd’s site. Early in the comments it’s suggested that Hendry should trade Ryan Theriot this winter. Chuck responds by saying something as silly as he usually does: Theriot would have brought a lot in return in the winter of 2007. No...

Shortstop for 2010 - what to do?

Short is a big issue for 2010. Scutaro cannot be counted on we'd haveto assume (the Jays would do full medicals to know a lot better than usI hope) so what do they do? A strong #1 or #2 shortstop is needed. With this staff it has to be aleague average or better defensive one too (ala Scutaro & McDonald)but ideally also an offensive force (as good or better than Scutaro in2009). Checking Fangraphs...

Can’t Vote For Theriot in Cubs All-Time 9

If you’re anything like me you rarely go to cubs.com. This little all-time 9 thing could have been up for awhile or it could have been put up today. I have no idea, but I couldn’t help but notice how useless it was. I mean, they don’t have Ryan Theriot’s 2007 season included. His 2008 one isn’t either. Neither is the 2009 season. I would have voted for any one of those...

A Tale of Two Theriots

It’s often been discussed on this site, and probably many others, whether or not Ryan Theriot is an effective answer for this team. It’s amazing how different people’s opinions on the matter are. Some love Theriot and have pledged their eternal allegiance to him, while others can’t stand the sight... To read the rest of the post, be sure to visit us at www.viewfromthebleachers.com...

Stat Boy Presents: The Curious Case Of Ryan Theriot

Lee: "Seriously, how can a guy this short be our everyday shortstop?" Did I call it or did I call it? Again. Ryan Theriot epitomizes everything that is Chicago Cubs baseball. Fun to watch until September. Get off your knees, Riot, you're blowing the game. For the third straight season, the diminutive Cubs shortstop slumped in September. Over those 317 plate appearances, Theriot has

Ryan Theriot Feeling Loose - Or Too Loose

Ryan Theriot strongly suggests everything was happier and more relaxed after Milton Bradley got suspended:''We've been doing things [in the clubhouse] the last two weeks of the season that we hadn't done all year, that we did last year and the year before last,'' shortstop Ryan Theriot said. ''It's definitely a different feel. I don't know why that is. I'm not going to sit here and say it's one person's...

Relaxed Cubs finish 8.163-6.837 since Bradley’s suspension

This is funny : ‘We’ve been doing things [in the clubhouse] the last two weeks of the season that we hadn’t done all year, that we did last year and the year before last,’’ shortstop Ryan Theriot said. ‘‘It’s definitely a different feel. I don’t know why that is. I’m not going to sit here and say it’s one person’s fault. But you...

Phil Rogers Is Unclear On the Concept

In his Hardball blog of yesterday , Phil Rogers laid out his Big Time Slugger (ACB Patent Pending) wish list. Here it is: 1. Adam Dunn—He coveted an offer from the Cubs last winter but didn’t get one. He’s a member of the Washington Nationals now, signed through 2010, but is a great trade chip for Nats GM Mike Rizzo. He’d be a good fit in right field, hittting enough to offset...
