MLBTR's Bad Contract Swap Meet

This could be one of my all time favorite MLBTR posts. Tim Dierkes scoured all of baseball's contracts and cribbed together the worst of the worst , the contracts any GM would love to get rid of. Happily, only Jeff Suppan (1 year, $14.5 million) is listed under the Brewers , though there are some other familiar names, including CoCo (2 years, $25 million) and Scott Linebrink (2 years, $10.5 million)....

Who Will Be the Scapegoat for the 2009 Season?

More photos » by Nam Y. Huh - AP Browse more photos » Remember the rules. You can't be someone who will be retained for the 2010 season. So that eliminates the coaching staff and front office. You also can't be someone who has an unmovable contract. So Scott Linebrink will have to wait to take the fall for the 2011 season. Essentially, you're looking at guys who are free agents to be or...

White Sox 2010: Never Say Dye?

It’s football season at US Cellular. Lethargy has settled in. The scent of Jim Thome’s butch wax has long since dissipated from the locker room. Mark Buehrle’s post-perfect-game season lay in perfect ruins. Scott Linebrink is learning how to look for jobs on Craigslist, Jose Contreras has been pawned off on [...]

Morning Box Score: M's Edge Sox In Extras

AP Photo/Ted S. Warren The Mariners rallied from a 3-0 deficit to edge the White Sox 4-3 in 14 innings, a dramatic, tough-to-swallow loss for the Pale House. The Sox got runs in the first, third, and fifth innings to take an early 3-0 lead. John Danks gave the White Sox a fantastic outing, pitching eight innings, allowing only one run, and striking out three. But closer Bobby Jenks blew the game in...

Sox lose in 14 inn. | Up next

Bobby Jenks and Scott Linebrink fail against Seattle Mariners SEATTLE -- For every impressive start like John Danks' eight innings of four-hit ball that raises the spirits of the White Sox, there are enough setbacks like the late-inning debacles in a 14th-inning 4-3 loss Thursday night against the Mariners that crush their already-slim American League Central title hopes.

White Sox Willing To Deal Veterans

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the White Sox have "distributed a memo to a number of teams in the league informing them that a number of Chicago veterans are available in trade." Jim Thome, Jermaine Dye, and Scott Linebrink were among the players listed in memo. The ChiSox are currently 5.5 games back of the Tigers in the AL Central and 12.5 games back in the Wildcard chase, so they're...

Major League Rulebook Bars Bobby Jenks From Pitching in Non-Save Situation

More photos » by Bill Kostroun - AP Browse more photos » That has to be the answer, right? I mean there's no way Ozzie Guillen would allow Scott Linebrink , who he recently removed from the "set-up" role, to pitch in the 9th inning of a tie game. Then follow his improbable 1-2-3 scoreless inning with a call on Randy Williams to face not just lefties, but righties and switch-hitters...
