Since the World Series ended almost 3 weeks ago, there has been very little news regarding talks with free-agents Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, or Andy Pettitte on potential new deals. And today, GM Brian Cashman said that he does not expect to hear from Pettitte regarding his future anytime soon. Andy had a great season this year, going 14-8 with a 4.16 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP in 32 starts with the Bombers...

The deadline to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players is December 12, just a few weeks away. The Yankees will have decisions to make on a few players, including Melky Cabrera, Brian Bruney, Chad Gaudin, and Sergio Mitre. Chances are the Yankees will offer arbitration to all four, though I still think there’s a chance they’ll [...] Post from: River Ave. Blues A New York Yankees...

If you haven't yet read David Ross' rant ‘Supporting Greinke' you are really missing something. Even if you are the staunchest of Yankee fan with no ability to appreciate any MLB player that is not on your team, you will find his angry outburst one of the more amusing commentary's on the state of baseball today. The Yankees have officially declined their 2010 option on Sergio Mitre. He still remains under their control and is arbitration-eligible. LoHud Makes sense. They must be confident they can win an arbitration case and bring him back for less than $1.5M

… by including Sergio Mitre news in a thread about the Cy Young award. I can see how that might have weirded some people out. For those who asked, the option on Mitre was $1.25 million so the Yankees were just making a fiscal decision in declining. Mitre is arbitration-eligible and, if I were betting, will [...] Click on the headline for the rest of this blog post ...

The NY Post is reporting that the Yankees have declined Sergio Mitre's $1.25 million option for the 2010 season. Mitre is arbitration eligible so he's still under Yankees control. There was talk earlier this offseason that the Yanks wanted to keep him around, so I expect them to come to some sort of deal.

Via Marc Carig on Twitter, the Yankees have declined the $1.25 million option the team held on Sergio Mitre. This move, however, does not portend the end of Mitre’s pinstriped career. Since he is arbitration-eligible, he remains, as Carig notes, under team control. The Yanks could still opt to non-tender him, but for the amount [...] Post from: River Ave. Blues A New York Yankees blog Yanks decline...

The 28-year-old Mitre had elbow ligament replacement surgery in July 2008 and agreed to a minor league contract with the Yankees last offseason. He sat out the first 50 games while serving a suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Amid the Denver Broncos' 3-0 start, one disquieting element has been the team's difficulties in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Fullback Peyton Hillis, who resumed practicing Thursday after sitting out the day before because of a blow to the head, said the short-yardage issues that cropped up during last week's 23-3 win at Oakland can be addressed with better preparation...

This is tough to tab the New York Yankees as a team of destiny. They challenge for World Series titles year after year, their spending habits are often blamed for making Major League Baseball a plutocracy that rewards the big-market teams with wins and glory. They are either the definition of a classy, winning franchise or the personification of arrogant, humorless baseball-as-business thinking, depending...
