Per Topkin's Twitter. No big loss with Jeff Bennett if he's plucked off waivers. Could've been useful, turned out not to be. Such is a scene in the life of a right-handed middle reliever. The bigger news is the Rays could stand to gain a pair of second round picks if Gregg Zaun and Brian Shouse decline salary arbitration and sign elsewhere. This also gives Zaun the chance to return if he accepts or...

The hardest position to fill this offseason , the Rays have at least one easy choice to make: keep Shawn Riggans. He is under team control. Likely to make the minimum or just above it. I love Riggans, works with the pitcher well, decent defense behind the plate, and is a grinder (just watch his cuts when he bats). The only concern for the Rays and his sake is the injuries. A compilation of his injuries...

Everything looking bad within the organization as the big league club now has lost 11(!!!!) in a row? Wrong! Two minor league affiliates take on their respective Yankee - rivals in the league finals. Durham Bulls: Anybody would assume that a AAA team which just had lost Wade Davis, Chris Richard, Reid Brignac, Jeff Bennett, Andy Sonnanstine, Dale Thayer, Shawn Riggans and Fernando Perez to the big...

Per Ken Rosenthal : Two Angels prospects with major-league experience - Class AAA catcher Bobby Wilson and infielder Sean Rodriguez - are candidates to be the player to be named in the Scott Kazmir trade, major-league sources say. How about a comparison of these two to hold us over? Wilson is a 26-year-old catcher struggling in Triple-A with a .271/.314/.399 line. In previous year he's hit well, but...

[Via email from the Durham Bulls' broadcaster Neil Solondz.]Shawn Riggans' third hit, a two-run double in the ninth, gave Durham the lead for good on Tuesday in a 9-6 win over Syracuse, a result that certainly helped the Bulls' playoff chances. With 13 games left in the regular season, Durham (73-58) moved 3.5 games ahead of the Chiefs in the wild card race by taking three of four in the series.

It is funny to say the Rays need anymore speed being the #1 team in stolen bases . Still the bench is pretty weak for late game pinch running for slowpokes like Burrell, Navarro, and Aybar. I have been thinking that the Rays were looking into getting some faster than benchwarmer Joe Dillon , but the Rays either weren't on the same page with me or there wasn't any good trade or waiver wire pickups....

More photos » by Chris O'Meara - AP Browse more photos » As an analyst, Michel Hernandez means little to me. He's no longer the best option to start, and his upside is ... well he has no upside. Going to Durham seems pointless for him since John Jaso and Shawn Riggans are there, and neither is going to sit on the bench for a journeyman. Still, when I woke up this morning and saw the news...
