Royals Sign Steve Lerud

Royals Sign Steve Lerud To a minor league deal. Lerud was a third-round pick in 2003 and was a semi-prospect seemingly forever, but he never hit for enough average to be of much use.

Alvarez will start the year at Class A+ Lynchburg, which is par for the course for a hitter of his standing. ( Matt Wieters made his pro debut at Class A+ last year.)
