As part of season reviews for major league players and top prospect rankings for minor league players, we here at Talking Chop thought it would be a fun idea to get all of our bloggers together with the help of Google Docs and debate the various aspects of each position in the Braves organization. The participants are, yours truly (gondeee, indicated by MG), yondaime4 (indicated by MF), royhobbs (indicated...

Not Moneyball, according to MTV Movies blogger Larry Carroll : “Yeah, I have another idea for a baseball movie that actually doesn’t have any baseball in it,” the “Informant!” filmmaker revealed to us recently and more than a bit cryptically. “I am going to see MLB when I’m in New York to talk to them about it.” Soderbergh understandably dodged our follow-up...

If the Mets win in a forest and I don't hear the Giants fall, did it still happen? Sure it did. But the Mets winning in a walkoff usually creates a great big resonant sound in my Sunday as long as I'm near a TV or a radio carrying the broadcast. And I was — I was inches from the clock radio whose alarm I presumably semi-consciously shut off prior to gametime and then left me undisturbed for more...

Baseball America's top 100 prospects from 2007 looks, in part, like this: 1) Daisuke Matsuzaka 2) Alex Gordon 3) Delmon Young 4) Phil Hughes 5) Homer Bailey In their short careers, each of these players have disappointed to some extent. Matsuzaka has been decent and/or injured, but not the shutdown ace some people expected, and Hughes has come on strongly this season after battling some injuries and...

Well, given that Squawker Jon has already thrown in the towel on the Mets' season, can I do a little victory lap and run around like Rocky with my arms in triumph or something? I mean, really. In his "Reversal of Fortune" blog entry , he compared his team both to the bad side of competitive eating, and to Sunny Von Bulow. Harsh! As for my own team, two movie analogies come to mind - "Up"...

Is Sunday's game over yet? What a long, long game, especially the first few innings. Were Joba Chamberlain and Toronto pitcher Brett Cecil competing in a Steve Trachsel pitch-alike contest? Sheesh. It's a good thing that Alfredo Aceves pitched a four-inning save, completely shutting down the Blue Jays. And that the Yankee offense bailed out Joba after he gave up eight runs and nine hits in 3.2 innings....

Is Mariano Rivera the player most beloved by his peers throughout baseball? It sure sounds like it, especially given all the accolades Rivera received after getting his 500th save . Heck, Squawker Jon's favorite Yankee - or, more to the point, the only Yankee he actually likes - is Mariano. That's saying something right there. It was a nice touch for the Yanks to honor him by having him throw out the...

You may recall that about a year ago I detailed my affinity for the Rays , while the Mets were slumping. Guilt-free rooting, I called it, and it was something I enjoyed so much that I decided to carry it over to the 2009 season. It hasn't been quite the same kind of magical season for the Rays yet. Their problems resemble those of the Mets (injuries, an offense whose inability to get the key hit makes...

While most of the talk has been about finding a power bat, and in my opinion, rightfully so, an argument can be made for the team obtaining another starter. Unless another team is financially strapped and just needs to get rid of players with big contracts, I believe the Mets only have enough to make one significant move and that should be for a bat. If the team was uncertain about Maine's return,...

Bob Raissman / NY Daily News : Raissman: Slow burn on SNY as Joba chided — The line was once reserved for Steve Trachsel. On Friday night, Keith Hernandez applied it to alleged phenom Joba Chamberlain. — “It's like watching paint dry with Joba out there, isn't it'” Hernandez, on SportsNet New York …

People keep talking about it, so using PECOTA's comparables from 1980 onwards, and dumping the extremely small sample sizes, I compared the 23-28 year-old projected career paths of Edwin and Sonnanstine. Hoping to see if there's anything worthwhile here. Let's take a look, first at Sonnanstine. The comparables are: Player 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 Doug Drabek 4.11 3.91 3.62 3.76 3.28 3.36 2.97 Jose Lima...

by Matt Snyder Filed under: Cubs , Orioles , AL East , NL Central , MLB Rumors Whether it's Steve Trachsel , Corey Patterson , Felix Pie or Rich Hill , the Cubs and Orioles seem to really enjoy talking trade with each other. It makes a bit of sense, considering Jim Hendry and Andy MacPhail worked together as members of the Cubs' front office for several years, because they probably feel very comfortable...

Today is a slow news day, as the players only had a one hour workout today in preparation of the first intrasquad game tomorrow. In the mean time, I thought it’d be fun to catch up with some former Mets, and see what they are up to since departing the Mets. SP Steve Trachsel – Trachsel last appeared with the Mets in 2006 when he won 15 games and was a key member of the pitching staff that...

Being a workhorse starter, an innings eater, isn't what it used to be. Gone are the days where an innings eater, such as a Steve Trachsel, could show up and ink a multi-year deal at millions per year. If you're not convinced, check out this post on espn.com about Nationals' starter Odalis Perez. Prior to the 2008 season, Perez inked a one-year deal for $850,000, contingent upon making the club. Perez...

Nickname: N/A Played for the Cubs: 1994-1998 Random Write-Up: Kevin was one of many workman like pitchers who made up the Cubs' rotation from 1994 through 1998, joining the likes of Frank Castillo, Jim Bullinger, Steve Trachsel, Mike Morgan, Jaime Navarro, Mark Clark, and Mike Morgan.
