The Unluckiest Pitcher

More photos » by Chris O'Meara - AP It's ok big guy, we don't hate you...I swear. (AP Photo/Chris O'Meara) Browse more photos » To say this has been a strange season would probably be an understatement. We saw everything fromplayers with seemingly little offensive skill putting up spectacular seasons, to 9th inning collapses so bad you had to call into work sick the next day. But perhaps...

Girardi Gets What Torre Never Could

From today's Journal News : Girardi said he never had any intentions of using the ultra-effective Phil Hughes in the eighth inning of Sunday night's 5-2 win over Boston. He called on lefty Phil Coke instead, and watched him give up a 1-0 lead on Victor Martinez's two-run homer. But Girardi sounded like he'd do it again to avoid overusing Hughes, or any other reliever. Hughes had pitched the three previous...

Odds & Ends: Isringhausen, Sturtze, Molina

Some Sunday morning Odds & Ends: So, whatever happened to Tanyon Sturtze? Sturtze never caught on with the Dodgers and was granted his release on May Day last week. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says he is now considering retirement to spend time with his kids. In the same piece, Cafardo reports Giants catching prospect Buster Posey has busted five homeruns and notched 22 RBI already in Single...

Per Jon , the Dodgers have placed Hong-Chih Kuo on the DL after a disastrous bullpen warmup session last night (he apparently threw a couple balls wildly , over the fence, even), and called up Brent Leach from AA Chattanooga . The Dodgers also released Tanyon Sturtze .

Eric Milton and the Dodgers

In the Transaction Report from two days ago , we noted that the Dodgers had signed a bunch of retread pitchers to minor-league deals. Then I added a mocking comment: Los Angeles Dodgers : Agreed to terms with pitchers Jeff Weaver, Shawn Estes, Ronald Belisario, Charlie Haeger and Tanyon Sturtze on minor league deals. Eric Milton wasn't available. Hey, the Dodgers are signing a bunch of guys who can't...

An old friend lands with the Dodgers

Reliever Tanyon Sturtze. Remember him? The Dodgers have signed him to a minor-league deal. Sturtze last played with the Yankees in 2006 before shoulder surgery ended his season. I can still see him throwing haymakers against the Red Sox at Fenway in 2004.
