With Victor Martinez being able to catch Tim Wakefield and Jason Varitek back for what’s likely his final season in a Boston Red Sox uniform, George Kottaras temporarily found himself out of a job on Wednesday. According to Alex Speier of WEEI.com, the Red Sox put Kottaras on release waivers. He was picked on Wednesday afternoon [...]

David Ortiz is holding an online auction as part of his Celebrity Golf Classic. There are some interesting things for you to bid including a guitar signed by Big Papi, a football signed by Tom Brady, and a World Series Jersey signed by Mariano Rivera. The most interesting item is a lesson on how to throw a knuckler from Tim Wakefield.

Jason Varitek is still making up his mind about the player option. Scott Boras says he will talk with Tek and Theo in the next day or so. The NESN report said the deal would be finalized today but it looks like that is not going to happen. Oh, and the Mets might want him . Tim Wakefield's surgery went very well and he was instantly without his limp , he should be ready to go this spring fresh off...

Apparently deciding that Tim Wakefield’s unique perpetual option (what I call a “gentleman’s option”) was no longer viable, the team has signed the ancient knuckleballer to a base of $5 million over two years. It’s an edible incentive-laden contract, just in case Wakefield can no longer pitch. If his chronic back problems become a career-ending [...]

Photo by flickr user Stewart Dawson . It's a busy time for Boston sports. The Bruins are preparing for tonight's game against the Penguins , most likely sterilizing everything any player could possibly touch while hoping that Saturday's absolutely brilliant play wasn't just a fluke. The Patriots are gearing up for Sunday's showdown with Peyton and Company, curious about how Dan Koppen could - or could...

Not only will Tim Wakefield be back with the Red Sox next season, he now has a contract for 2011. Not bad for a 43-year-old coming off back surgery.
