It should go without saying, but the Diamondbacks did not bring Travis Blackley to Arizona to replace Randy Johnson. Blackley is a southpaw, and historically a starter, but a rotation spot doesn't seem to be in order. The Australian got a split deal , which will pay just over minimum in the majors. As noted by 'skins, Arizona signed Travis Blackley, though I think it's a bit of a stretch - to put it mildly - to claim that he is the replacement for Randy Johnson mentioned by Jeff Moorad in his chat. No-one would have thought Blackley a replacement for Johnson two days before Moorad's comments, so I tend to think any such opinion is almost entirely the result of unfortunate timing. Dbacks sign Travis Blackley As Muu pointed out, balancing out the departure of Randy Johnson, the Dbacks today signed Australian-born LHP Travis Blackley. Blackley has started 8 major league games in his career with the Mariners and Giants, and spent the whole 2008 season with the Phillies' AAA squad. He is 1-3 with a 9.35 ERA in 34.2 career major league innings.
