Trade Market: Designated Hitters

There are plenty of DH candidates on the free agent market, but trades are possible too. Here's our look at the DH landscape... Milton Bradley, Cubs. The Cubs seem certain to unload Bradley, perhaps on the Rangers, Mets, or Rays (obviously the Mets would have to use Bradley in the outfield). Surely by now you've memorized the fact that he's owed $21MM over the next two seasons. Luke Scott, Orioles....

Indians Inattention

Think Indians fans had a hard time sitting still while they watched former aces C.C. Sabathia and Cliff Lee square off in Game 1 of the Series last night? You can’t possibly imagine the lengths the players went to in an effort to avoid thinking about it at all. Shin-Soo Choo looked for the best place to hide just in case the South Korean military came to collect on those two years of service....

Weekend Royals Links: All Hail Insanity Wolf With Weird Greinke Rumors Flying

Above all else, this will be remembered as the week that Dayton Moore v. Insanity Wolf came into our lives, probably the single funniest blog post I've read all year. Meanwhile, earlier this week, there was an out-of-nowhere Greinke to the Brewers rumor, which I first heard about via Schaum on Twitter . For the Brewer response, click here . Enjoy the rest of the links, which are sundry and numerous....

Travis Hafner, Homeruns and Andy Marte

More photos » by Tony Dejak - AP Travis trots. Browse more photos » The argument has been made that September statistics are fundamentally different than statistics from the rest of the year. There's an obvious logic to this: as rosters expand and teams are eliminated, more, worse players begin to both pitch and hit as team's evaluate young players, give starts to AAA veterans and everyone...

Game 162: Red Sox 12, Indians 7

More photos » by Michael Dwyer - AP Travis Hafner hit .321/.424/.500 over the last two weeks of the season. Browse more photos » It's over. Finally. Tomo Ohka got burned for for seven earned runs in five innings, but I guess that's besides the point, for if he starts another game for the Indians , the team is heading for another season like this one. Rafael Perez , in what may have been...

Sports Redux: Pats Healing, Sox Winning

With the Red Sox in the insignificant final series of 2009, the most interesting topic today for Bostonist is, you guessed it, the notoriously enigmatic Patriots injury report ! Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork generated a lot of interest as Bill Belichick listed them as "doubtful" and "questionable," respectively. Mayo returned to practice and Belichick simply gushed. "He's working...

Game 160: Red Sox 6, Indians 2

More photos » by Mary Schwalm - AP As Jason Veritek goes for a foul ball, a Sawx fan shows off his spoon-swallowing skills. Browse more photos » This series so far has to me felt like Spring Training games, though the two teams have different goals in mind for them. Boston's Terry Francona is trying to give his players enough playing time to stay sharp, but also keep them rested and healthy,...

Game 157: White Sox 6, Indians 1

More photos » by Mark Duncan - AP Aaron Laffey allowed eight hits, all of them singles, and several of them infield singles. Browse more photos » This was one game where it didn't really matter much what the pitching did, because John Danks was locked in all game. He allowed three hits, two of them to Shin-Soo Choo . His lone earned run allowed was a Choo home run. Aaron Laffey did ok with...

Is it time for Ni-Lyon?

Bobby Seay, the Tigers primary lefty out of the pen is hurting. Gerald Laird called for trainer Kevin Rand to visit the mound after he saw something amiss in one of Seay’s pitches last night. Seay didn’t immediately leave the game, but he did after allowing a single to Travis Hafner. Now Seay is on his way to the MRI machine.
