This Month in White Sox Minor League Baseball

Jordan Danks does it for the kids. View full size photo » This month: Jordan Danks has been the outstanding performer so far for the White Sox winter ballas. Shaking off his poor, potentially injury induced, second half of 2009, he's gone .333/.450/.485 in 18 games. Watch him this Saturday at 7:15pm on MLB Network in the AFL Rising Stars Game. The White Sox originally sent a bunch of junk to...

Big writeup on the Rattlers

Josh Levanthal of Baseball America has an article titled Some Teams Thrived In Tough Economy up at the BA.com website. The worst economy since the Great Depression didn't stop a handful of teams from welcoming a record number of fans to their ballparks in 2009. Minor league baseball failed to set an attendance record for the first time in six years, as 102 of 160 teams saw a decrease at the gate in...

JERI's Idea for Reality TV

I must make a confession. I have gotten totally hooked on these cooking contest shows on the food network: Iron Chef America, The Next Iron Chef and Chopped. There is also a show on Bravo, Top Chef, that I watch, but not as consistantly. The Next Iron Chef and Chopped, especially, really are just horrilble, in that the contestants are a little desperate, and totally willing to stab their fellow contestants...

Something off in the future

There will -- at some point -- maybe -- quite possibly -- if someone steps up -- be a new name for Oldsmobile Park, the home of the Lansing Lugnuts. But, it's not going to be easy . Lansing mayor Virg Bernero told me Wednesday before he leaves office, with another four year term about to begin, the Oldsmobile Park name will change. No more General Motors money is coming in-- it was $100,000 per year...

JERI's Update...mostly off-topic

OK. So it is after 10, and I'm just now getting the opportunity to sit down and type. John is in Pheonix, and has already attended a game. He sounds very happy to be there. He wanted me to tell you that he's going to try and get some good video to post for you from the games. When John takes these trips it is always a reality check for me. We are so fortunate to be able to both be at home, so even...

Meet the new guys in Quad Cities...

From the Bandits : Baseball veteran Johnny Rodriguez will take over as the 32nd manager in franchise history and will be joined by 28-year-old pitching coach Tim Leveque. While the River Bandits' hitting coach and strength and conditioning coach have yet to be named, Manabu Kuwazuru will take over as the team's athletic trainer. How veteran is Rodriguez? Well, last year he was the hitting coach of...

JERI's Update, and Question of the Day

Greetings! It's been a while since I've posted anything for John. He's driving through New Mexico, and has assured me that he will NOT turn left at Albuquerque (rim shot!). Just a few updates in this post. First, and most importantly, we have the order site, www.johnsickels.net , set up for the BPB2010. Yes, it still looks like the work of a drunken monkey, and yes, I would be that monkey. However,...

The rosters for the All-Star Game in the Arizona Fall League, which is known as The Rising Stars Showcase, have been released . The only ex-Rattler to be named to the game -- so far -- is Phillippe Aumont ('08) for the Western Division.
