Just a couple of weeks left for us to peruse the minor league box scores. We'll get bonus baseball from the Lakewood BlueClaws -- who made the playoffs via winning the SAL Northern division in the season's first half -- and possibly the Reading Phillies , who are currently 1 game up on the Bowie Baysox in the race for the Eastern League's Southern division second playoff berth. Until then, let's just...

Last night I finally made my way to Baseball Town, USA. There was a double header scheduled between the Reading Phillies and Bowie Baysox. Brett Myers started game 1, going 2 innings, giving up an inside-the-park homerun, and only topping out at 88-89 mph on his fastball. Then the rains came and canceled the games. Not all was lost though, as I got to meet some of the players and talk baseball with...

I haven't watched much baseball over the past few days. I caught the last two innings of Sunday's loss and two batters in yesterday's game (the two outs after Markakis' double). I haven't sat down and watched a game since the loss in Detroit last Wendesday. This happens every year, my waning interest. It's natural of course, and happens to most us. Just look at the game threads from last September;...

The trade talk gets serious Note that both Washburn and Lee are lefthanders, which would give the Phillies a decidedly lopsided rotation. But both are good pitchers and both can be had. Ugh, I don't...

Happy off day, everyone! Last night Chris Tillman made his 16th start of the year for the Norfolk Tides and earned his 7th win. Tillman's line: 6.0 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 6 K. He did it all on 94 pitches (61 strikes). One of the few criticisms of Tillman when discussing if he's ready to pitch in the majors has been his inability to pitch late in games, but in his past six starts he's averaging about 6.1 innings/game....

According to Dean Jones Jr. of the Baltimore Sun, minor leaguer Bobby Livingston exercised a clause in his contract this afternoon to gain his release from the Orioles. Livingston, 26, was 6-2 with a 3.62 earned-run average in 13 appearances (12 starts) with the Double-A Bowie Baysox. The clause in his contract allowed him to ask for his release if he wasn't on the major league roster by July 1. Livingston...
