Number 40: J. J. Hoover- RHP (21) 6′3″ 215 LB Hoover was, perhaps, the most valuable starter for the Rome Braves in 2009. Being the most valuable starter for any Atlanta Braves’ minor-league affiliate is usually an honor, but this one is particularly meaningful considering the rotation included, at some point, Julio Teheran, Randall Delgado, [...]

I attended Lake County’s contest Sunday afternoon with the Rome Braves and was able to witness the spectacle that is 18-year-old right-hander Jason Knapp in action. The “centerpiece” of the Cliff Lee deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, Knapp projects as a super-power arm capable of anchoring a rotation or being a shutdown closer. Although he [...]

Yesterday I was taking in a Rome Braves game, the Class A farm team for the Braves. They won, the Tigers didn't, so let's move on to today's game The Twins took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 4th punctuated by back to back home runs to straight away centerfield. Those deep blasts tearing up shrubbery must have awakened the dormant Tigers offense, as they stormed back in the bottom of the inning....

(Observer News Services) The Charlotte Knights scored six runs in the seventh inning to beat the Syracuse Chiefs 7-0 Tuesday night. The Knights went ahead 1-0 in the sixth inning on a Michael Restovich home run. Then in the seventh, Cole Armstrong entered the game to pinch-hit for Wilson Betemit. Armstrong's single led to a barrage of singles and three runs scored, prompting the Chiefs to replace pitcher...

The Atlanta Braves , in an attempt to make themselves seem younger, released 305-game winner Tom Glavine this afternoon. After undergoing surgery to repair his shoulder and elbow, the aging lefty semi-triumphantly returned to the team he spent the first 16 seasons of his career with (1987-2002) before dating the Mets for five years and then deciding he missed his old flame. So, am I the only one surprised...

One often hears griping about boorish behavior, steriod use, and the like from professional athletes. Tom Glavine's generosity with his time last night to sign autographs--including one for Pee Wee (see photo below)--is a nice contrast. Glavine was in Rome for a rehab start (he gave up no runs and was especially sharp in his last 4 innings) and, by coincidence (scheduled long before it was announced...

The Braves have a decision to make : After throwing six scoreless innings and earning a win in his third minor-league rehab start in two weeks, Braves pitcher Tom Glavine pronounced himself ready to return to the major leagues Tuesday night as the 43-year-old veteran turned in a solid outing in Rome’s 3-0 win over the Augusta Green Jackets in front of a sellout crowd of 5,105 at State Mutual...

He threw six strong innings, allowing 3 hits, no walks, and struck out two. Glavine had this to say about his start: "It felt like early in the game I was struggling with my mechanics, with my tempo. My location wasn’t great....

More photos » by Tom Mihalek - AP Browse more photos » The old man's at it again. Tom Glavine just won't give up, and in some ways you have to hand it to him for trying to get back out there. But then there's the other side of the game that says we have potentially better and younger options in Kris Medlen and Tommy Hanson , so why should we waste any starts on the Tom Glavine reunion tour?...
