CHICAGO -- Pitcher John Grabow became the first of the 171 free agents to agree on a new deal, getting a $7.5-million, two-year contract Friday from the Chicago Cubs. The 31-year-old left-hander combined to go 3-0 with a 3.36 ERA last season in a career-high 75 relief appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs added five players to their 40-man roster on Friday afternoon: John Gaub , Blake Parker , Rafael Dolis , Welington Castillo and James Adduci . The Cubs had until 11:00pm C.S.T. on Friday night to add players in order to protect them from being exposed in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft on December 10. The Cubs 40-man roster now stands at 38 players .

Before the 2009 campaign the CCO asked the Faithful to make predictions on the upcoming season. Needless to say, last year did not end up the way most thought. The Cubs finished behind the Redbirds in the central, missed the playoffs and dealt with one drama after the other for the entire summer.
