It seems like Brad Hennessey and Aaron Heilman are having parallel careers. Both were first round picks in 2001 ( 21st & 18th) by their respective teams and both have struggled to define their roles. I think it's clear that they both have the talent to be major league pitchers but may need a change of scenery.... As for Heilman I think Mets fans would be surprised to find out just how many teams would...

Was Aaron Heilman the most abused pitcher in baseball in 2008? Look at the numbers and judge for yourself. His 1486 pitches thrown were tied for the second-most in MLB among “pure” relievers — pitchers who did not make any starts. (Carlos Marmol led all relievers in pitches with 1505 ? but we’ll get to [...]

Roberto "Bert" Hernandez pitched for the Mets in 2005, the then 41 y/o reliever did a serviceable job making 67 appearances with an ERA of 2.58. But Omar traded for Bert in 2006 not for what he could do on the mound but what he could provide in the pen. Aaron Heilman had his best run in the second half of 2005 when he posted an ERA of 0.68 as a reliever and directly attributed his success to his relationship...

After this season, it seems everybody hates Aaron Heilman, and anyone watching, rooting for, or writing about the Mets, would recommend that the Mets find a way to cut ties with the tall righthander. But that notion makes no sense at all. First of all, consider that Heilman pitched the entire season with an injury that may [...]

The New York Daily News James Quealy and Nicole Bode have an unsavory bit of Mets-related mischief from the Queens District Attorney’s office. Clearly, the accused didn’t take my advice and claim he thought he was attacking Aaron Heilman — no court in the borough would’ve convicted him. Christian Hansen, 32, of Brooklyn, admitted to badgering [...]

This is how I think Omar Minaya should approach the Off-season: 1) Go and get a closer via Free Agency - Francisco Rodriquez, Brian Fuentes 2) Package Aaron Heilman and a prospect (Maybe Daniel Murphy/Fernando Martinez) for a Starting pitcher. The Mets this Off-season are going to have to part with one of their top prospects to get something done. Heilman has wore out his welcome in New York, I think...

In the Daily News, Adam Rubin frames out the off-season road ahead for Omar Minaya. According to Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record, Minaya must part ways with Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis, Luis Castillo and maybe even Ryan Church, while also giving serious thought to trading a player like David Wright or Jose Reyes. Frankly, I need more time to [...]

Scott Schoeneweis and Luis Ayala each let up a solo home run in the eighth inning yesterday, in what were ultimately the deciding runs. …from what i understand, schoeneweis was essentially in tears in the clubhouse after the game, and needed to be consoled by Aaron Heilman, then Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya, before getting it [...]

According to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors, using a stat labeled WARP, “The Mets have gotten 30.9 wins this year due to first round picks,” which is the most in baseball. Tim continues to explain, “David Wright, Mike Pelfrey, and Aaron Heilman were Mets first-rounders. Johan Santana, Brian Schneider, and Ryan Church were acquired using first-round [...]

What a mess. I mean it is so difficult to sit down and watch games that should be closed out and put in the win column just to be pissed away by incompetent relief pitching. I thought yesterday we finally saw the frustration of Warlord Jerry when he used both Aaron Heilman who should just [...]

If Jerry Manuel had to put together the Mets' playoff roster today, he said hapless reliever Aaron Heilman Aaron Heilman would "probably" be on it. That by the Mets' interim manager claim appears dubious considering how poorly Heilman continues to pitch and how reluctant Manuel has been in using him lately. Heilman made his first appearance in a week Wednesday and was dreadful, giving up a double and...
