Cintron off DL; efforts to sign Matusz slow The Orioles optioned struggling pitcher Brian Burres to Triple-A Norfolk yesterday, leaving Jeremy Guthrie and Daniel Cabrera as the only members of the Opening Day rotation still on the team. Shortstop Alex Cintron was activated from the 15-day disabled list to take Burres' spot on the roster.

Cintron suffered a a strained left hamstring on July 1. He hit .429 in five games with Frederick and Bowie after hitting .275 in 26 games with the Orioles. This from the Orioles notebook: The Baltimore Orioles designated infielder Freddie Bynum for assignment yesterday, and manager Dave Trembley said Alex Cintron will be the team's third starting shortstop this season. Baltimore shortstops are producing a .233/.274/.280 line this season....

MILWAUKEE -- The Baltimore Orioles designated shortstop Freddie Bynum for assignment Sunday, and manager Dave Trembley said Alex Cintron will be the third starting shortstop in 2008. Bynum hit .192 with five RBIs. The club has 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the minors.
