The Dodgers' struggling outfielder hits an opposite-field double early in the game, but strikes out with two men in scoring position in the eighth inning. With one swing, Andruw Jones took one huge step forward. And with another, he took a massive one back.

I realize this shouldn't amount to thunderous news, but considering it's only his second since the All-Star break (and fifth in all of July), the event does boast at least a minor ability to stop the presses. Unfortunately, the Haley's...

Here are some rumors being reported by Will Carroll at Baseball Prospectus that involve the Braves: The Rangers were clear winners at last year’s deadline, already seeing a payoff from last year’s deals. They might try again, making smaller deals focused on 2009. They might again have a match with the Braves, dealing one of their extra OF bats — Frank Catalanotto, Marlon Byrd, or even Milton Bradley...

And so the momentum died less than 1/2 inning into Monday’s divisional battle with the Dodgers. Cause of Death: Kip Wells Double Wild Pitch Double Single Single Single Strikeout (Andruw Jones, duh) Walk Single Error Double I don’t think anyone visualized Wells as a savior or stablizing force in the starting rotation, but Jiminy Christmas, Kip — what the hell was that? Clint Hurdle diagnoses the situation....

The struggling slugger has tried to stay positive, but it didn't seem to help in the Dodgers' first game after the All-Star break. PHOENIX -- It was a gut-wrenching decision, but I agreed to take a family vacation again, passing on the RV for long airplane rides, which explains why I'm with the Dodgers now in serious need of comic relief -- the vacation's not supposed to end until next week.

Chris Dial released the first half numbers of his metric, offense plus defense, or OPD. Reading through them gives us a pretty good idea of why the Dodgers aren't that great of a team this year. While it's no surprise that Andruw Jones is our worst player (though not the worst centerfielder in baseball, that title belongs to Michael Bourn. Our second worst player is James Loney. Loney clocks in as...

Indians starter Cliff Lee is 12-2 with a 2.31 ERA this season and is giving up a preposterous .265 on-base percentage, which is identical to the number for the depressing Andruw Jones.

Quote, unquote : Jones admitted Sunday that he still is not 100 percent healthy after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in late May. But five strikeouts Saturday and one more Sunday? "It was a tough game (Saturday) but I have to rebound quick and make a quick adjustment," Jones said. "I was too aggressive and jumpy out there and that's why I had a game like that."

It was just over a week ago that Andruw Jones had come off the disabled list to the tune of an 0-for-5 game with four strikeouts. At that time, we said there would only be brighter days ahead for Mr. Jones, and that it wouldn’t be long before “U” joined the Golden Sombrero Club. [...]

Typically, there's a certain rhythm to the in-dugout pregame media pow wows with the manager. A story of immediate relevance, like a lineup change (tonight, for example, Andruw Jones is getting a scheduled day off to help protect his knee-...

Just like Andruw Jones to go 0-for-5 with 4 strikeouts in his first game back from injury. I saw the numbers both he and Nomar put up in their rehab stint together, and I thought it was encouraging. Now, (finally) I’m beginning to come around and admit it was a horrendous signing even [...]

SAN FRANCISCO -- Joe Torre has a feeling his team is starting to come together. The Dodgers are getting healthy, too. Los Angeles welcomed back Nomar Garciaparra and Andruw Jones from the disabled list with an impressive win against its archrival. Ben Margot / Associated Press Giants manager Bruce Bochy takes reliever Osiris Matos out of the game in the sixth inning. Matos gave up five runs in the...

SAN FRANCISCO -- Penciling Andruw Jones into the lineup Friday against the San Francisco Giants, Manager Joe Torre said he hoped he would see "a different Andruw."But Jones, who was hitting .165 when he went down in May with a knee injury that required surgery, struck out in his first four trips to the plate. He grounded out to third in his final at-bat. Torre excused the performance, saying, "He's...
