MINNEAPOLIS -- Zach Miner walked four batters and threw 49 pitches in two innings Tuesday night. It was his third straight unsmooth outing. On Wednesday morning, the Tigers sent Miner to Triple-A Toledo and recalled right-hander Aquilino Lopez, who'd been in the Tigers bullpen until he was sent down a few weeks ago when Fernando Rodney was activated.

Zach Miner paid the price for a 4 walk effort on Tuesday night with an assignment to Toledo. Aquilino Lopez who was being stretched out as a starter has been recalled to provide a strike thrower in the pen. Both moves are warranted, but my first thought when hearing of this was Denny Bautista. [...]

We already knew that the Detroit Tigers were worried about the starting pitching depth in the organization. Aquilino Lopez was sent down to Toledo to " stretch out " from a reliever's workload and get ready to pitch starter's innings. But it looks like the Tigers are exploring all available options, in case Eddie Bonine doesn't prove major league ready or Dontrelle Willis can't regain his control...

After spending the last couple of weeks rehabbing in Toledo, Fernando Rodney has been activated by the Tigers. To make room for him on the roster, Aquilino Lopez will be sent down to Toledo. At first glance, it's a surprising move because Lopez has been one of the Tigers better relievers this year with a 2.67 ERA and a 24/7 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings. What is even more surprising though is

So that’s one decision. Fernando Rodney is back with the team and Aquilino Lopez was sent to Toledo. But the demotion is with a plan. They are going to try and stretch Lopez out into a starters role. This comes as a little bit of a surprise to me, because I [...]

Before playing their first home game in nearly two weeks, the Tigers made a series of roster moves Friday. Three new players -- right-hander Denny Bautista, outfielder Brent Clevlen and infielder Michael Hollimon -- joined the active roster, in place of right-hander Aquilino Lopez, outfielder Clete Thomas and infielder Ramon Santiago.
