Jon Heyman of SI.com believes the Blue Jays have been fielding offers for OF Vernon Wells, though they are not necessarily shopping him. According to Heyman, “The Blue Jays may have financial concerns,” and would consider trading B.J. Ryan or Wells, ‘though there’s no evidence they would entertain trading Roy Halladay.’ Wells hit .300 with 20 HR and 78 [...]

Jon Heyman has heard that the Blue Jays "have fielded a few trade inquiries" about Vernon Wells, though they are not shopping him. Wells has six years and over $100MM remaining on his contract. Because of the Jays' financial constraints, they could consider trading Wells or closer B.J. Ryan for the right package. Trading the center fielder would likely take a lot of creativity on the part of Jays GM...

Via Slyde, I see this in-depth look at the pitching mechanics of Homer Bailey. I don’t really know what to make of it, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Especially this part: Homer Bailey is a textbook example of how not to throw a baseball, right up there with Anthony Reyes, B.J. Ryan, and Mark Prior. Ouch.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, ‘The Blue Jays would deal B.J. Hugo: With the Jays' bullpen seemingly a strength, should the Jays look to trade from that strength in order to fill other holes? Hugo: Definitely, if they can. If no one is traded and everyone returns from injury as expected, the Jays have BJ Ryan, Brandon League, Scott Downs, Casey Janssen, Jesse Carlson, Brian Wolfe, Jeremy Accardo and, if they want them, Brian Tallet, Shawn Camp, and Jason Frasor...

Cathal Kelly of the Star speculates that the Blue Jays may look to trade closer B.J. Ryan, the Jays will look to acquire young, cheap talent while freeing up salary at the same time. Ryan is 32 y/o left handed closer with a nine year career ERA of 3.24. He became a full time closer in 2005 with the Orioles and since then has amassed a save record of 115-142. He has a history of big game blown saves...

TORONTO, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A two-run, pinch-hit double in the sixth by Gregg Zaun put Toronto in front Thursday and the Blue Jays defeated Baltimore 3-2. Jesse Litsch (12-8) worked six innings to get the win, scattering four hits and striking out six. B.J. Ryan put runners on second and third with only one out in the ninth, but worked out of the jam to record his 31st save. Toronto faced a 2-1 deficit...

The moment Gregg Zaun's 13th-inning slam disappeared behind the right-field fence over a leaping Rocco Baldelli yesterday, a huge weight was lifted from the shoulders of two men – second baseman Joe Inglett and closer B.J. Ryan – who had combined to sabotage a 3-0 Jays lead in the ninth.

I just got back from a little 13 inning game at the ballpark formerly known as SkyDome. I took the kids who were enthusiastic angels for all 13 innings and it couldn't have been a more exciting game. It should have been a quick 3-0 shut-out and a well deserved win for Shaun Marcum. With B.J. Ryan on in the ninth to close it out, the Tampa Bay Rays managed to tie it at 3, in part thanks to an infuriating...

Shaun Marcum did his job for the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. B.J. Ryan didn’t. And because of that, Marcum had nothing to show for his fine efforts. Marcum, making his first start since being recalled from Triple-A, pitched shutout ball against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, displaying the form he’d exhibited last summer and earlier [...]

In a game neither Scott Downs nor B.J. Ryan could hold, the Blue Jays twice rallied to beat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 in 11 innings last night on what amounted to a 400-foot walk-off single by that masher, John McDonald.
