LHP Randy Johnson has signed with the San Francisco Giants. With 2008 CY Young winner Tim Lincecum and bulldog Matt Cain, the Giants now have the best top of the rotation in the weak offensive environment of the NL West. With Barry Zito and Jonathan Sanchez in the four and five holes, the Giants now have one of the best rotations in the National League. Before visions of rotation sugar plums begin...

Frankly, this seemed like a move more out of Oakland than San Francisco, but look out now because the Giants just added Randy Johnson to a rotation already consisting of Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain and Jonathan Sanchez. Oh yeah, and Barry Zito. Still, coupled with a lineup that isn't going to be too outmatched by anything else being put up in the division and are the Giants now the favorites in the NL...

There were some fun sightings at Fleur de Lys! A tablehopper reader spotted Paul Stanley from KISS (and his wife?) at the restaurant. Barry Zito was also in “the maison” that night. Paul Stanley was additionally spotted at A16—and yes, he is totally rocking some rocker hair. And one of my personal faves: MC Hammer was in the house, two days in a row, actually, at South! He had the chicken confit with...

It could be so : The word around here is that Giants officials are supremely confident that they are going to sign the big lefty, this despite the fact they are already paying all that money to Barry Zito. It would make a lot of sense, frankly. Sabathia is from the Bay Area, and they're the only team of the two there with sufficient funds to pay him, even with Zito's contract.

Maybe, according to the New York Daily News . No editorial for this one. Just a poll. Poll The highest I would want the Giants to go on a Sabathia contract is.... 5 years, $100M 6 years, $120M 5 years, $120M 6 years, $140M Are you crazy? Not while Barry Zito is still on the payroll. Like, four years, $50M. Take it or leave it, fella. 8 years, $600M, and an underground lair under Pac Bell Park. Whatever...

Links for Friday... Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News says $100MM contracts for pitchers are risky, given the deals signed by Kevin Brown, Barry Zito, and Mike Hampton. Those pitchers don't seem similar to C.C. Sabathia, however. The second part of Curt Schilling's article about his trade to the Red Sox. The Royals signed several minor league free agents, including righty Federico Castaneda...

Remember how worried a lot of us were when the Giants were linked to Carlos Lee ? And remember how, when the Giants didn't sign Lee, how they turned around and signed Barry Zito with the money earmarked for Lee? Damn, how I wished the Giants had signed Carlos Lee. With Lee, the Giants probably would have been forced to fill center field with an in-house option, like, oh, Randy Winn. This would mean...
