In case you hadn't noticed, the closer landscape always seems to be in constant flux. For every Mariano Rivera and Billy Wagner who can be counted on year after year, there's a Joe Borowski or Brian Fuentes ready to blow up. Continue reading "Maycock: New closers waiting in the wings"

Over the last two weeks, Billy Wagner has been stellar. Count his last two games against Philadelphia as part of that run. Wagner's health was not an issue again yesterday afternoon at Shea Stadium, and he fired a scoreless ninth inning to...

It's highly unlikely that Omar plans to go with four lefty handed relievers, two of the three current lefties are pitching very well in Billy Wagner and Scott Schoewneweis. The Mets aren't just looking into left handed closers but any decent left handed reliever in the majors. They must really be concerned Pedro Feliciano who has struggled lately, in July Pedro 2 has an ERA of 15.75 ( 8 gms. / 4 innings)...

Lennon adds that the Mets' interest in Xavier Nady has cooled, but they are still in on Casey Blake and Raul Ibanez.

Your guide to the neverending slog of the baseball regular season. NL - Yeah, that's another Simpsons reference up there in the headline . Sorry. Who'd have thought the Mets would be so happy to see Billy Wagner? At the very least, with him around they get to hear more Metallica , but not spoiling another three-run lead in the 9th might be part of it as well. New York managed to hang on to win 6-3...

As a closer who has had a penchant for blowing some big games, Billy Wagner is fair game for criticism. He's more than willing to take the heat and often nobody is harder on him than he is, but Wednesday he restored order to the Mets.

NEW YORK - There was some fire in Billy Wagner's eyes, and he wasn't even on the mound. Those eyes were still burning a bit about 20 minutes after he closed out the Mets' 6-3 win over the Phillies last night at Shea Stadium, likely because his character had been questioned in a New York Times opinion piece yesterday.

After the game, closer Billy Wagner spoke with the press. Wagner literally laughed off the possibility of Shane Victorino “running him over” on the grounder that Carlos Delgado fielded and then flipped to Billy who was covering first in the ninth inning. The two crossed paths but did not collide. Wagner seemed to be in [...]
