Ah, the irony...Brandon McCarthy made his first minor league rehab start today, in the Arizona Rookie League, on the day the guy he was traded for starts against the Rangers... The box score is here... Rehab assignments can go for up to 30 days for pitchers, so this would put him on track to return in early- to mid-August, barring any setbacks. Please confine bitching-about-the-trade discussions to...

So, there was the story in this morning's S-T about Brandon McCarthy having a setback and not pitching off the mound in Arizona anymore. A couple of folks at the NMLR boards said that, no, McCarthy threw off the mound today. Evan Grant said that there's no setback in a blog entry today. There apparently is a very vigorous conversation going on . . . about Brandon McCarthy having another setback after...

Evan Grant has an update on the Brandon McCarthy situation , after there were (apparently erroneous) reports that McCarthy had a setback... Jon Daniels -- via Grant -- reports that McCarthy threw off a mound today, including breaking balls, and there have been no setbacks... Good news...

Source: Chicago Sun-Times (Original Article) Trade wins: Danks, Masset making Sox GM smile May 19, 2008 BY CHRIS DE LUCA cdeluca@suntimes.com SAN FRANCISCO — Though all the precincts haven't reported, it's safe to project the White Sox as the winners in the Brandon McCarthy trade. And the decision runs deeper than the combined efforts of John Danks and [...]

When the White Sox traded Brandon McCarthy to Texas before the season, the focus was on the two older pitchers they acquired in the deal, John Danks and Nick Masset. But 21-year-old righthander Jacob Rasner, also acquired in the trade, is beginning to show big league stuff as well.

Richard Durrett with some good news and some bad news... Good news...Salty is up for good, and Adam Melhuse will be let go. Bad news...Brandon McCarthy has had a setback, and won't start throwing until the ASB, at the earliest. Ugh.

For those that are wondering what our good friends John Danks and Nick Masset are doing these days, the short answer is “pitching,” which is more than Brandon McCarthy is doing. Unfortunately for White Sox fans (and Mike Hindman), the long answer requires some clarification along the lines of “making the Minnesota Twins look like Murderer’s Row.” SouthSideSox eulogizes a poor Danks start that Masset...

John Danks and Brandon McCarthy still have the same amount of wins this season after Danks' start today against the Indians. Some sourpusses around these parts will be perturbed by the fact that Danks allowed only two hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings in the White Sox's 2-1 win. Please don't knee-jerk and rip into Jon Daniels for dealing Danks, who could have developed into the best homegrown lefty...

Two Decembers ago, Kenny Williams made a trade that even by his standards was an unexpected and shocking deal. Just weeks after dealing steady starter Freddy Garcia for Gavin Floyd and a Gio Gonzalez to be named later, he traded Brandon McCarthy for a pair of minor league pitchers from Texas. McCarthy had been thought to [...]

Roster particulars: As expected the Rangers designated Robinson Tejeda and Nelson Cruz for assignment, giving them 10 days to either trade, release or outright them to the minors. Left-hander John Rheinecker was placed on the 60-day DL. Right-hander Brandon McCarthy was also placed on the 60-day DL, meaning he won't be eligible to pitch for the Rangers until May 29. I think I just heard a collective...

Evan Grant reports that the final spot on the 40 man roster for the new additions (Dustin Nippert, Adam Melhuse, Jamey Wright, Franklyn German) will be created by putting Brandon McCarthy on the 60 day disabled list. That means McCarthy cannot be activated until May 29, at the earliest. Color me disappointed. I was hopeful that McCarthy would be back by mid-May.

OK. If the season started today, the rotation might look like: RHP Kevin Millwood RHP Vicente Padilla RHP Jason Jennings LHP Kason Gabbard RHP Luis Mendoza (RHP Brandon McCarthy on the DL) Mendoza, it appears, earned his spot with five solid innings yesterday . If he can get that change-up to where it needs to be, he can be a force thanks to a devastating sinker. But Gabbard has struggled. If he has...
