Real nice pickups for the Yanks here. They finally get a lefty for the bullpen and another right-handed bat. All for Ohlendorf and 3 prospects. The bullpen and bench both benefit. Though he was speedy, Brett Gardner wasn't cutting it with his .150 average. Also, the Yanks blanked Boston 1-0. Joba won the battle vs. Beckett.

You have probably read by now that the M’s reportedly asked for both Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner from the Yankees for Jarrod Washburn. There’s just no way that’s true - asking for either one is crazy enough, but both? Cashman would hang up on the phone and put call block on any number [...]

Amongst the topics discussed in yesterday's Tampa confab of Yankees' brass, was the topic of Barry Bonds. With an outfield of Brett Gardner, Justin Christian, Melky Cabrera and Bobby Abreu, Bonds' bat would certainly improve upon that group. The question is whether Bonds is worth the baggage of public relations' hits and the re-opening of the steroids wounds inflicted by Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte...

While perserverating on the hitting of Jose Molina, Brett Gardner and Melky Cabrera, nevermind Derek jeter, and the fact the Yankees activated Johnny Damon to DH because his shoulder isn't strong enough to play LF, I checked the standings. Despite this offensive warts, the New York Yankees trial only the Red Sox in the Wild Card chase. This gets me thinking maybe, just maybe, the Yankees should be...

On July 6th with the Red Sox and Yanks locked in a game that would eventually be decided by a Brett Gardner infield single, Manny Ramirez came up to pinch hit in the top of the 9th. With the winning run on base, Ramirez had the unenviable task of facing Mariano Rivera. Manny took three [...]

Here are the results of our poll on the center field situation; Who should be starting in center field? Brett Gardner - 97 (57%) Melky Cabrera - 74 (43%) As you can see, Brett Gardner was your choice by a fairly significant margin. However, since this poll began, neither of the two has been exactly impressive statistically. Their averages - [...]

Uh-oh! Hideki Matsui might be facing-season ending knee surgery. Johnny Damon has also had a setback in his recovery from a shoulder injury. And New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman isn’t denying that Barry Bonds might look better in the New York lineup than Brett Gardner or Justin Christian. Here is what Cashman said Tuesday about Bonds. “I would [...]

When Brett Gardner was called up on June 30th, it was pretty clear that he had a chance to win the starting job in center. No one came out and said it, but Melky's offensive struggles left the door wide...

They both steal every chance they get! I couldn’t resist. Last year at the break, the Yanks were 43-43, 9.5 GB of the division lead and 8 back of the Wildcard. This year heading into the break, they’ll be no worse than 50-45, 6.5 GB in the division and 6 back for the Wildcard. The season [...]

With the Yankees offense scuffling, Joe Girardi finally made a meaningful tweak to his lineup yesterday, dropping struggling rookie leadoff man Brett Gardner to ninth in the order and moving everyone else up a spot. That meant Derek Jeter, who has hit a Jeter-esque .311/.385/.444 since June 1, leading off, Bobby Abreu batting second, Alex Rodriguez batting third, etcetera. His team responded by scoring...

Alex Rodriguez homered and drove in three runs, moving past Mickey Mantle for sole possession of 13th place on the all-time home run list with 537. Derek Jeter and Brett Gardner also knocked in three runs apiece, as the Yankees broke out for their highest run total in the last nine games.

Fine. I admit it. I'm a bit excited about this series. Maybe it's tonight's pitching matchup, or maybe it's tomorrow's, which is pretty intriguing itself. Maybe it's the presence of Brett Gardner and Jose Molina in the Yanks' regular lineup, or maybe it's just Adam Lind walkoff fever. Whatever it is, there should be a decent atmosphere in the Dome this weekend. Tonight, it's Joba Chamberlain taking...

Yeah, so those last four spots aren’t going to look that pretty. Thankfully, though, this means that Girardi opted not to bat Melky leadoff tonight. That, unfortunately, means that he’s actually in the lineup. It’s too bad Brett Gardner isn’t hitting better, or maybe we’d have an option to take over for him in center. Jorge’s [...]
