Mark Feinsand reports that Dan Giese is hitting the DL with rotator cuff tendinitis. As the Daily News scribe tells us, Giese will follow a similar rehab plan to that of Joba Chamberlain. More interest, however, is the news that neither Carl Pavano nor Phil Hughes — who Chad Moeller says looks great — will [...]

Ed Price of The Star-Ledger spoke with Triple-A catcher Chad Moeller, who caught Phil Hughes on Tuesday. Moeller reports that Hughes is a new pitcher, as compared to the pitcher he was earlier this season, thanks to increased velocity and a new pi...

I was in the car for the eighth inning of the Yankees-Orioles game, perfect timing to hear John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman talk about Chad Moeller's unlikely turnaround from getting cut in spring training by the Nationals to backup catcher...

I don't know the answer. Gregg Zaun wants out of Toronto, the Jays want to trade him, but GM J.P. Ricciardi says nobody has expressed interest in Zaun. Here's the story. Zaun has thrown out 10 of 41 would-be base-stealers,...

With $52MM man Jorge Posada looking done for the 2008 season, the Yankees catching tandem consists of Jose Molina and Chad Moeller. Debate over whether Molina and Moeller can be part of a viable play-off contender is limited to the fringes of Yankees fanaticism. So I was surprised to see nothing about trading for an upgrade at catcher in the New York papers this morning. Amongst the names I expected...

Jorge Posada's shoulder labrum issues became too great for him to continue playing, and he will hit the 15-day DL , presumably replaced by Jose Molina as the team's starting catcher in the interim with Chad Moeller as his backup. Posada has started a rehab course, but if he needs surgery, he needs to have it done as soon as possible or else he will likely miss a large part of 2009 as well; if he does...

And I mean, someone better than Chad Moeller. Jose Molina is closing in on his career high for games played (he's played 60, high was 78 back in 2006). Molina has been overexposed at the plate, hitting only .219/.260/.300. His awesome defense earns him some slack (caught 25 of 52 basestealers). But Jose is not an attractive option for the last couple months of this season, or for next season. Jorge...

The Yankees have now been carrying three catchers on their 25-man roster for nearly a month, and during that stretch, third catcher extraordinaire Chad Moeller is a whopping 1 for 4 with 5 plate appearances. Clearly, then, to our uniformed eyes, the Yanks are wasting a valuable roster spot. But perhaps not. According to a [...]
