Over the last few days I've heard several people ask why Claudio Vargas was sent down, only to bring up Tony Armas Jr. It does seem like both pitchers provide about the same thing, while not pitching spectacular they keep the team in the game ( which is exactly what you need from a fifth starter) and throw multiple innings as a longman. I believe Warthen worked well with Armas and wanted one of his...

Image by Getty Images via Daylife Claudio Vargas has cleared waivers and will report back to Triple-A New Orleans. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Vargas back at some point. I thought that he might even get taken off waivers. He pitched as well as I thought that he would this season. He had a 4.62 [...]

Claudio Vargas has cleared waivers and will report back to AAA New Orleans. Vargas was 3-2 with a 4.62 ERA while with the Mets. I’m glad we didn’t lose Claudio, to be honest I think he should still be here and making the start tomorrow, not Tony Armas.

By Jack "the hack" Mason (guest blogger) Okay- here we go- 4 games against the hated Yankees in 3 days, and I've had about all I can take with this roster. Sign Andy Phillips...DA Claudio Vargas...bring up Tony Armas...DA Trot Nixon'?? Even getting back Ryan Church just isn't enough to turn this team around. Let's face facts- we're a flawed team- scratch that- we're a flawed "half" of a team. Until...

It appears that Oliver Perez will get at least one more start on Sunday against the Yankees because of his reputation as a big game starter. If Perez struggles he could be moved to the pen with Claudio Vargas being re-called to fill his spot in the rotation..... "Oliver's a funny guy," Manuel said. "You know, looking back at Oliver Perez, it appears as though the bigger the game, the better the performance....

Yesterday I caught wind of changes blowing in Shea, and wrote about it on MetsBlog. Already some of the moves have occurred, but I have to say I’m scratching my head. For example, the DFA of Claudio Vargas. Yes, we found out why the Brewers let him go — he’s an eternal enigma, a guy with [...]

As was reported here at Hot Foot by Gary Grund earlier, the Mets have called up Carlos Muniz to replace Claudio Vargas. Not only are the Mets now once again without a long man, but the team also heads into a gigantic 18-game stretch beginning with Friday’s doubleheader without a viable extra starting option on [...]

If you told me that Omar Minaya released a player last night after that embarrassing performance I don’t think Claudio Vargas would have been the player I would have picked. I know Vargas got lit up last night but I don’t see how he gets his walking papers. I mean it no great loss that [...]

SNY post game show reported that the Mets had DFA Claudio Vargas for assignment and recalled Carlos Muniz. Vargas struggled tonight in the long man role and gave up four runs raising his ERA to 4.62. Vargas has to accept assignment and then make it through waivers, he's been effective enough to hope that he makes it to AAA. It's odd that Muniz has been recalled, not only does it leave the team without...

John Maine looked good, for a while, though he let Arizona chop away at a four-run lead. He was removed after the fifth, after which Claudio Vargas let the [...]

Following tonight’s game, Willie Randolph announced that Carlos Muniz will be demoted to Triple-A New Orleans to make room for the return of Pedro Martinez. Meanwhile, according to Randolph, Mike Pelfrey will remain in the starting rotation, while Claudio Vargas will shift to the bullpen.
