Will the Jed-i Master continue to impress? Can the Sox get to...

Guess that knee really hurts

With two on and two out in the 11th, the situation screamed for Manny Ramirez to hit for Coco Crisp, but evidently Manny was not available because of his sore right knee. Crisp hit an excuse-me grounder to short to end the inning. Paps is on to pitch the 11th after 1 1/3 innings of exquisite relief from Manny Delcarmen.

Ell's bells

Ellsbury certainly isn't taking his at-bats out to left field with him. He made a nice catch of Yuniesky Betancourt's sinking liner for the inning's first out. Then, when Coco Crisp got a late break on Johjima's liner, Ellsbury came streaking across from left to make a running catch in front of Coco, who might not have gotten there in time. Oki just walked pinch-hitter Miguel Cairo; Tito has gone...

I know, I know...

I thought the kid should have bunted in the third, too, after Coco Crisp's leadoff single. Instead, Jacoby Ellsbury fouled out to third, continuing a nasty slump that was at 3 for 22 at the start of the day. By my count, he's only had one possible hit taken away on the trip; he's been hitting few balls with any authority. BTW, how'd you like be Sean Casey these days? He barely plays, and when he does,...

7/23: Open Game Thread, Part 2

Coco Crisp doesn't at all belong in the Boston lineup today. Figure out why.

Tonight's starters

Jon Lester (7-3, 3.38 ERA) faces off against Jarrod Washburn (4-8, 4.83 ERA) tonight as the Red Sox take on the Mariners in Seattle. Tonight's Mariners lineup has just 32 combined at bats against Lester. On the other hand, the Red Sox have seen a lot of Washburn over the years. Coco Crisp (10 for 21, 4 RBIs) has had great success against Washburn, as has Manny Ramirez (7 for 21, 10 walks).

Beckett falters in seventh, Angels score 4

Vladi Guerrero homered on Josh Beckett's first pitch of the seventh, and the Angels scored three more on Erick Aybar's pinch triple to take a 4-2 lead. Coco Crisp's spectacular catch at the wall spared Beckett from more damage, Crisp taking extra bases away from Casey Kotchman to end the inning. Crisp clutched his back after making the catch and slowly walked off the field.

Sox score, tie game even on terrible call

Red Sox manager praised Sean Casey before the game saying he's very comfortable with having Casey -- who is batting .371 -- fill in for any injured player in the lineup. With Coco Crisp and J.D. Drew out tonight with minor injuries, Casey is the DH with Manny Ramierez moving back to left field. Casey's double in the second inning led to the first Sox run, although the hit itself was inches from being...

Nothing to savor from closer's appearance

NEW YORK - By the time the ball ticked off the lip of the grass and Alex Cora's glove, it was too late. Robinson Cano was rounding third base and heading for home. Coco Crisp, picking up the errant ball, had no shot. The Yankees streamed out of the home dugout to greet hero Brett Gardner while Jonathan Papelbon, the ...

WP

Though Tim Wakefield might have been the better candidate for the wild pitch, it was Joba Chamberlain who threw one. And at the worst possible time. With no outs in the fifth, Chamberlain threw a wild pitch to Coco Crisp, walking him, and allowing Kevin Youkilis to score from third base. That ties the score at 1-1, with two men still on (first and second) and no outs in the top of the fifth inning....
